I suspect they meant actual options. Like the camp kitchen.

Hopefully color choices don't fall in that category for folks.

But even then, taking on the price adjustments for paint and the accessories doesn't seem particularly absurd given we are saving (at least) 12k.
My concern would be that what they’re actually saying (or thinking of doing) is that any changes to your prior config will put you completely on the new (more expensive) price book—that would seem extremely punitive.

Got the email clicked the link. We back! Note that it says can take "weeks" to reflect on the account.

Ooof. Yeah, that would suck. I'd be hard pressed to believe that's the case... but, totally fair. They gotta build that trust back up. Step 1.

What really has me a bit worried is we have a R1S on order, large pack because that was the longest range at the time. But, all along, the plan was to get the “max pack”, whatever extended range that may be. Im probably getting kicked to the new pricing even though I had 0 opportunity to select the variant I want. I wonder how they are going to deal with R1S customers like me? I would even be willing to compromise and take the cheaper dual motor option to help them, if they were ok with that.

Not that it has any relevance here, but Tesla locks you in and if you change ANY option, you are subject to the current price.

I ordered a Model S a day before a $6k price increase. I can’t change anything, even if it’s a free option. If I do, my price goes up $6k. For some who ordered before me, it would be about a $12k increase.

Only thing you can add without a charge is the $12k full self drive.

Not sure I love the wording of that 3rd bullet point, considering some CS reps have been saying we’ll be able to change config and keep old pricing. Still some details to work out. I’ll be patient until we get a definitive answer.

Edit to clarify: “don’t love” wasn’t meant to suggest I’m upset. I would just like the opportunity to change 4 options at least 1 time, after seeing samples: exterior paint, interior color, wheels, off-road package.
Sound like you will now pay more for options previously NOT selected. Luckily for me, the last R1T config i was playing with was all my wishlist option. ?. I was ready to cancel if not for today’s email.

The max pack R1S isn't coming anytime soon.

I have had a similar thought. I was excited originally when I thought they had just announced the dual motor variant as I thought it would reduce the cost a bit. I didn't want the max pack, but there could be a middle ground to get me off the quad motor into the dual motor, but I can't think of what that would be that would help both parties.

Honestly most of us have had years to figure out what we want and now that we are getting original prices at Rivians expense, you're mad because they didn't tell you to hurriedly load up your vehicles options list so you could be greedy?

I read this excerpt "We will honor the prices you were given for the options you previously chose" as, any alternative/additional product, say you want to add the camp kitchen, but didn't previously have it, will be paying the new price for it, as it was not in your original configuration. Where it gets muddy is colours and wheel options. If we deviate from what was configured, is it an extra?

My idea of what I wanted from Rivian hasn't changed since early '19, I commend RJ for taking the hit on this one and honoring pricing, but the relationship works both ways. You are getting a now heavily discounted vehicle. Be greatful.

Works for me. I have white on white now but am strongly considering silver with black interior.

I think they’re trying to say that you’re not going to be able to suddenly add on all the accessories and max pack for the old prices, and honestly I think that’s a pretty fair deal. Don’t get hung up on the syntax.

Yeah well have to see. Would really rather not have to buy 2 cars and eat the depreciation. But that looks like that may be what I have to do if I really want the max pack. Might not be worth it in a few and might just have to settle for the large pack.

Got my email

“We appreciate your patience as we update our configurator and your Account page with your previous pricing. We expect this could take several weeks. In the meantime, you’ll be hearing from us more regularly.”

I hadn't finalized my selection especially when there was no deadline to finish the final configuration given that I have a R1S order with no ETA yet.

An artificial deadline has been cooked up by Rivian due to the price bomb last week. It's not fair for only my selected draft options to be honored and anything else I do will be with the new price.

Just when you trusted them to make things right , they continue to surprise you.

The only analogy that comes to my mind and it's brutal......it's like Kramer or Costanza in Seinfeld. They never cease to amaze me ??.

My trust levels on Rivian just nose-dived and it's going to take a lot to build it up.
Chill out.

They had messaging on the website that your configuration can be finalIzed closer to the build. To lock folks in now seems unfair without any advance warning. I don’t even object to paying the increased options pricing as long as I can personalize. Like many I had not finalized on color and wheels. As for the wheels was waiting on feedback from customers that had taken delivery before finalizing my selection. Rivian don’t make another mistake….. give your customers the chance to make configuration changes even if at increased option pricing.
