According to RJ’s letter:

For anyone with a Rivian preorder as of the March 1 pricing announcement, your original configured price will be honored. If you canceled your preorder on or after March 1 and would like to reinstate it, we will restore your original configuration, pricing and delivery timing. Our team will be sending an email in the next few days with more details.

However I’m nervous since price for options in my configurator has not changed back since the email. Any suggestions?

This isn't a "flip a switch" type change. They have a lot of work to do on the particulars of the deal itself on top of the technical challenges. Be patient.

Yes, it is going to be some effort. I’m sure thier system was not setup for variable pricing, probably one of the reasons the price change was pushed out that way in the beginning.

Hopefully their system is setup in modules so they can build a new module for old pricing and add a reservation date flag for which module to call. If not may take longer than next week if they need to rework that entire section.

Wouldn't be surprised if they go quick and dirty with this initial phase, doing some copypasta and routing existing orders to a version of the configurator with the old prices and new orders to a duplicated set of code with the updated prices.

CS confirmed that any changes to config should be made once original pricing is restored.

They obviously didn’t have a process to revert this, give them a bit…

Seems easy enough to just have the old configurator available to old preorders.

Right, based on what others have been told we will still be able to make changes to our configs at previous prices. That basically means they have to have 2 versions of the configurator.

I spoke with CS and stated that I did not cancel, however had not finalized on color and wheel selection for my R1S.. he said any changes now would make price go up to new pricing.. I explained the website shows you can make configuration changes final at a later time. Not sure if CS had accurate information. Have requested call back from a supervisor. They should allow one chance for options to be finalized prior to implementing a price lock policy that is new.

Thanks everyone, understand it is not a easy change on the configurator, just to confirm I’m not been “left out” due to whatever I did on the configurator after the price increase :)

The solution seems simple to me.

1. Temporarily disable the configurator for new reservations.
2. Restore the database back to where it was on March 1 prior to the price increase.
3. Give everyone 7 days to make final changes to their configuration.
4. At the end of the 7 days, lock all configurations under the old pricing structure. Any further changes would necessitate repricing under the new structure, with some leeway given to guides to make minor adjustments later.

They will probably end up overcomplicating this and may just manually adjust pricing when writing up the purchase agreements.

You all are making a HUGE assumption that Rivian actually has a backup! ?

As an IT guy, the quick, easy, and dirty solution would have been to restore the server snapshot prior to the change. That takes minutes to hours, not days. I am pretty sure there were no new orders placed that woul be lost. Even so, you can run a report to compare the two versions.
