Yesterday I was out for my son’s birthday. Drove all over the place and found my truck at 19% SoC with a decent distance left to drive home. Fortunately there was a relatively new Tesla Supercharger, at nearby Northglenn, CO, with a Magic Dock. So I set it on my nav to begin preconditioning and headed that way.

The biggest PITA was setting up payment. It showed that ApplePay was setup but it wouldn’t take it so I had to manually enter in my card info. After that, everything go easy. I just entered the charging unit number, unplugged the cable and adapter from the magic dock and plugged it into my truck.

I went from 19 to 50% SoC in 17 minutes. No technical issues at all. At it’s best, the charger was putting out 212kW of power. The price was a whopping $0.43 per kWH. Very pricey compared to charging at home but I was impressed with the speed.

All in all, I want more Tesla Supercharger access YESTERDAY. I’m tired of Electrify America’s horse crap.

That is great, last time I used a magic dock it maxed out at 150kW even with the station rated to 250kW which meant I didn't charge up as much as I wanted to. I was worried when we get the adapters we would be limited as well. Hopefully this was just a one off in my case as the charger had 8 stalls and only 3 in use.

Just curious, did you precondition your battery? It really does make a difference.

Battery was around 65 degrees as it spend all night in a temperature controlled garage. But it never went above 150kW. It jumped right to 150kW and just stayed there for almost 40 minutes until I unplugged.

@Sgt Beavis , I'll be using my first Magic Dock next month in IL on a Coloto Nashville trip.
I was under the impression that if you have a credit card linked to your Tesla account, the Supercharger would bill that automatically. Is that not the case? Or, do you have to enter a credit card in the app every time you dock for some magic?

Remember even at a supercharger the posts share power, always try to find a post not next to anyone else, plus this is just good charging etiquette

My experience as well with battery at 90, 70, and 65, maxed at 150kW and no one else on that bank of chargers. Glad to see someone breaking 150!

Awesome. About how long did it hold the 212kwh rate?

It’ll save your CC info. It just didn’t let me use apple pay for some reason. Not a big deal.

First report I've seen of a V3 Magic Dock charger delivering more than 150kW. Hope that's a sign that they've removed whatever was limiting the power output when using the adapter.

I ran into the Apple Pay snafu too. Even though Apple Pay is explicitly listed as a payment method on my account in the Tesla app, it's doesn't seem willing to use it for Magic Dock charging, and the error messages were not helpful. Adding a regular credit card solved it and is sticky. So add a real card to the app before you go to save yourself a headache.

That is not the case on V3 & higher SCs; they no longer share power.

Damn, guess they unlocked 500A on the V3 stations too now. Previously they limited it to 350A and we'd only seen one report of 500A on a V4 dispenser. Glad to see it!

I'm hoping this means the upcoming untethered adapters will also allow 500 amps.

Looks like its a system-wide change within the last week based on plugshare reviews. This makes the V3 magic docks much more useful for R1's!
