I built upon the design of @Snazzy Labs phone holder to make a ball mount that sits on top of the charging platform. I designed it to fix a few issues I had with the other solutions.
  • While Snazzy’s clip worked very well for charging my iPhone 12 Pro, I didn’t like that I couldn’t see the whole phone screen and it was out of my field of view
  • Others have printed a ball mount that uses the tray at the front of the charging platform but my gripe with that one is that the phone then interferes with the slide-out cup holders
  • @RWerksman ball mount between the two screens is great but the steering wheel cuts into the view of the phone (which I think he acknowledged)
I printed in PETG as two separate pieces and glued together. Works well so far. I'll likely print another one at some point and sand/finish it so it appears as something other then a 3D-printed hack.

I’m using an official MagSafe charger and a mount from Amazon, “Adhesive Car Mount Compatible with Mag Safe Charger”, made by Kuaguozhe, sold by BestBlue. (not linking directly because I can never see the Amazon links others post)

I get up to 2.25a charging with MagSafe from the USB C ports in the console.

Files are up on Printables.

And yes, the base does look like a giant grand piano.

This is one of the better ones I have seen and would work for me. Can the base be flipped to the other side?

Thanks!

It should work on the other side as I believe the cable ports to which this attaches are symmetrical. You could modify the file in SketchUp or a better CAD program. Or maybe even use a "mirror" setting when 3D printing.

Is there an advantage to mounting this down low vs on the dash where you'd be able to see it better and have less distraction from the road?
