I must admit that spending $108K on a truck was nerve-racking. Reading through these forums gives the impression that this vehicle and company are half-baked products at best. I have owned BMWs, Land Rovers, a Martin, Hondas, and Toyotas, and all I can say is that after my delivery yesterday, they are all in the dust compared to my buying experience, driving experience, and the delivery of my R1T Tri.

  • Audio: Holy crap, even without using Lossless, the audio experience was miles ahead of that in my premium BMW M series and Land Rover. As an audiophile who uses reference speakers daily, I can say I'm happy.
  • Build Quality: Amazing.
  • Feel: Hell yeah, it feels like a 100+ truck. My Land Rover NEVER felt like this, even when it wasn't in the shop every three weeks.
  • Ride Quality: The ride quality is SO much better compared to Tesla. Honestly, my Tesla Model 3 feels like a Kia compared to this thing.
  • While Tesla is great with acceleration, it struggled in the snow, even with snow tires, despite fiddling with all the regen settings. I thought I was going to DIE even going uphill. After 8 years of owning an AWD Tesla, no snow mode WTF . The ride was rough and felt plastic all the way around.
I am not sure why there is constant negativity towards this product. I would take the Rivian over a Land Rover or Toyota any day. If BMW made a truck, yeah, I’d buy that. As for service, we will see, but it won't compare to the bills I racked up with a Land Rover, which was constantly plagued with "Yes, that Land Rover is well known for [insert some basic feature constantly breaking] that will be fixed in the next model."

So far, Rivian has exceeded my experience as a buyer and given me confidence as a stock owner. Compared to my early Telsa experience, this is night and day. If you're looking to buy, go for it. I went from WTH, do I need a 100K truck for - to holy crap, this is awesome in one day.

great you are enjoying the new TriMax R1T!! I love the new tri max configuration and interior trim.

I must say though, I’m very shocked at your audio assessment. Maybe you got a new revision of the premium audio? IMO the audio in BMW X-series and Basic Tesla M3 were miles ahead of the R1S Tri Premium Audio I have. But here’s hoping it can be improved with the next firmware update.

Making me wonder too. Maybe Rivian took early feedback and greatly improved hardware.

Yeah, same question, audio is noticeably worse on my Gen2 T than my MYLR

I was honestly floored by the quality based on the posts here. Before picking up the truck I was dreading, mucking with the audio. When I got home, I put on DSOTM and thought HOLY crap, this is good, put on rumours thought holy crap pretty great. None of the mid mudiness reported by others, separation was fine, still overly compressed which similar to that of the B&W formation speakers I often use. Can't say if it's firmware or what but, I'm a happy camper

How long have you worked for Rivian? :CWL: I'm an owner and a fan, but I've heard the premium audio, and its ok on some songs, but really bad on most. If there's been some recent changes, I'm all for it.

LOL, looking back, it does come off as fanboyish. I totally get where you are coming from. I have only listened to DSOTM and Rumours. Can't speak to a wider breadth of music but if I find a difference, I'll repost.

Welcome!
If you go to the settings app -> vehicle -> updates. It’ll have your current system and version.

Great posts!
I'm 5 months into my Gen1 R1T Quad Motor and I'm already looking at the 2025 Tris... I need to wait for that unless I want to get divorced quickly :)

But definitely I will seek for a lightly used Tri-motor in the future to replace my Gen1. Coming from (two) BMWs, I 100% agree with your statements

I test drove one before ordering and the music wasn’t as good as my Meridian R1T. Then again the Meridian isn’t as good as it was two updates ago now either so ?‍♂

This is great to hear! I have a gen 1 R1T with meridian and gen 1 R1S with their in house speakers. I love the cars! but my only complaint is the sound system. The Meridian system is a bit better than the in house, but still nothing compared to the B&O that I had in my previous car. I would immediately trade both cars in for another R1t and R1s as soon as they come up with an improved audio version of the car.

That's re-assuring. I'm due to take delivery at Denver sometime in the next couple weeks and just joined this forum this past weekend and will confess have started second guessing the decision. In part my concern has been the actual buy experience whereby I've noted a real distance between buyer and seller; all through text, non-responsive or slow response through text with Denver. It's a little disappointing considering I'm spending $110,000.00 on a car. So your positive comments are re-assuring and I'm hoping my new R1S has fewer issues than what is presented throughout this forum.

This is what I’m hoping! I love my gen2 dual but the only thing I don’t totally love is the audio. If they fix that, I have no issues at all.
