Thanks for sharing. EVs have been around long enough. Shouldn't they have come up with the "holy grail of tyres" by now.

When they can make a low rolling resistance tire that is also good in the snow and the rain, that will be a true breakthrough.

Not a single car or motorcycle comes with the holy grail of tires, so no.

I think the best we can hope for is a tire that doesn’t suck at all of these. Snow requires soft rubber and lots of edges to grab the snow. Great range requires a firm tire and smooth treads.

Purchasing 2 sets of tires has been the key for us. Part of living in a cold, snowy environment.

There is a inverse relationship between rolling resistance and wet traction. The lower the rolling resistance, the worse the wet traction is. That's physics, I know.

So it would be a breakthrough if they can do it. It might be impossible, as you suggest. But the perfect EV tire would have a way to overcome the current physics problem.

Michelin man says... So I can sell you one tire instead of three? No thanks .... I am good with three separate designs.
That does sound like something Bibendum would say

And they (the tire industry) have tried that and are doing it still on certain tires... different compounds on different sections of the tire.

It might be an active tire is required - something that is controlled by electronics, and not simply rubber. Hey, how about a hovering car, like in the Jetsons? Zero rolling resistance, and you can float over wet and snowy roads! LOL.
