Details suspension info from a Sr. Staff Technical Specialist of Suspension at Rivian (Rohan Mahadik) --

R2 uses cost-effective and package efficient triple tube semi-active
MacPherson Strut in the Front, coupled with mechanical antiroll bars, and isolated subframe that carries the drive unit. For the Rear, the R2 uses a multi-link suspension coupled with mechanical anti-roll bar, isolated subframe, divorced coil spring and triple tube shock absorber.
Using its four solenoid actuator valves, it can continuously change damping in real-time reacting to the varying road conditions, various driving manuevers and vehicle accelerations measured by the IMU. The semi-active tune makes it a powerful vehicle for handling manuevers as well as maintaining a soft ride comfort for daily driving.

The R2 multi-link rear suspension includes 5 stamped steel links and uses an isolated rear subframe to deliver incredible ride quality and handling, while achieving our optimized cost structure. Our "starfish" forged aluminum rear knuckle integrates bushings for each of the 5 rear suspension links to reduce unsprung mass to support enhanced ride quality.

Coming from a Jeep TJ, the 5 link is very short, almost too short to call it a 5 link. Time will tell if it is effective.

Well...I can see this part will need replacing more than once in the vehicle lifetime. I can't picture a scenario where at least one of these bushings won't fail. I like the design. Looks replaceable...

So is the general idea with bushings these days is replace the whole thing as if one fails, another is likely to fail soon after??

You mean the bushings themselves are not replaceable??

Yes do people still push bushings in to a part or do they just now replace the whole part. Sorry not familiar with this stuff, but I have had bushings fail in the past and they usually just replace the part.

They replace bushings still, unless it's a simple, high volume control arm that's fairly cheap. I'm sure that forged, low volume knuckle will NOT be cheap.

Model 3 and Y have a similar knuckle design and there are aftermarket upgrades for the bushings. So if this becomes a common failure point, someone might develop that just like they did for the Teslas.

I don't know anything about off-road use, but maybe these knuckles will start getting torture tested soon in those conditions?
