Did road trip from Phoenix to spend a week in Lake City, CO in my new R1S. No issues and did great on the trails. Did Wager Gulch also which is a little more difficult and it did great crawling up some rougher terrain their too. Nothing like a Relive video to document some trail riding so here it is:

Those pictures bring back a lot of memories! My grandparents had a place in Lake City when I was growing up. We spent the summers on those trails. I can't wait to get my kids up there.

I can't recommend it myself. I think someone or a few might have already done it on 21's easily but there are a few sections with some rather sharp rock. With full size spare would be less worry. Its not hard at all for most its just if you run into some rain (very common up that high) or similar might get real sketch is some sections. Really just depends upon your comfort level or risk acceptance level as the R1's are very capable. I run 35x11.5 that are 8-ply rugged terrains as have good amount of off road experience so know that is pushing your luck and even the lightweight Rivian 20 AT's are not the proper equipment for my preferences. Other vehicles with street tires are often up there. Just my .02 ...

That app is so cool! It’s been awhile since I’ve been up there - the visual route tracking really adds to the great pics.

Thanks for sharing. Great app. I'll have to work up to something like that as I don't have any such experience.

Would you mind providing more information on your wheels and tires?

Do you have any tire rubbing?

What pressure did you air down to, and what do you think is lowest safe pressure for your tire/wheel combination?

Thuren 20in wheels (had them coat mine in gloss black). Falken Wildpeak R/Ts 35x11.5 D load range.

Zero rub I found so far and had it flexed out with a wheel off the ground in a couple of cases. The Thurens allow a bigger tire as has even slightly more positive offset as well as .5in narrower wheel which all helps with how the suspension cycles.

I was running 25 PSI. I had a lot of extra gear so did'nt really want to try lower but you could also barely tell I was aired down. I think 20 PSI is the lowest I would generally likely want to go on a D load range at the weight we have. All depends upon the type of terrain and speeds but the tire profile on flat ground will tell you a lot too. These wheels have a bead design that helps hold the tire better even though not a bead lock so lower might be ok to say 15 PSI in terrain like sand at slow speeds. I also normally run them on 40 PSI in fronts (front takes more loads when braking/turning) and 35 rears for the street as gives a more proper contact patch and thus best wear/traction. Not a fan of the over inflated lightweight EV tires in general as only good for range. On very long road trips I will inflate to the max of my tires which is 65 but that is the only time will do that.

Thank you. Much appreciated.

I happen to have bought the same wheels except semi-gloss. So far I just swapped the OE Pirelli ATs to the new wheels. I intend to get better tires when I wear these out, but have not decided which yet.

Although range is not now as big a concern for me as it was originally, I am curious about how your wheel/tire setup has impacted range compared to the OE setup. My Thuren wheels + OE tires weigh in just over 96 lbs. which I think is about 10 lbs. more than OE combination. So far (2800 miles) my overall average is 2.04 mi/kwh 95% in All Purpose.

Although I did not measure acceleration with the OE wheel/tire I have with the heavier Thuren wheel/OE tire which I expected to really slow it down. Using Racebox Mini it measured 3.38 sec. 0-60 mph, and the AT tires squeal (traction control off) all the way into mid 40’s mph. ATs are not good at all for drag racing, but that’s not main reason I have the vehicle.

I like the looks of your S with those wheels/tires … a little prejudiced bcuz I have exact same color S. I’m heading to AZ in a few weeks to do some off-roading with my son. Don’t know yet where he is planning to take me, but will be first time off-road in my R1S. Really anxious to see how it does, and was excited to read about your experience. Thanks for sharing.
