Prinsu Pro Roof Rack on R1S - install photos & review

I had the original Prinsu rack on my 4Runner that the Rivian replaced and loved it! It was a great addition for the 6 years I had the truck and I used it often!

Up until now the only roof rack option I found was the Ruff Rack which is exorbitantly priced and I feel sits too tall when I saw it in person and the Front Runner Slimline which I didn’t like the look of. I was talking with Prospeed about their “upcoming” R1S rack but for 4 months it has been “almost ready” and not released.

Prinsu just released these racks and I’m assembling and installing today…hopefully. The only reason I say hopefully is it comes in 2 boxes and box 1 delivered as expected yesterday but box 2 was delayed to today. Total cost was around $1500 which is very reasonable and it was about 3 weeks from order to delivery

I will post pics of it as there aren’t install instructions I found for the R1S yet. One tip I learned from my 4Runner is PPF the roofline and especially the top of the rear hatch. I scratched up mine pretty well loading all kinds of stuff up top from camping bins to Home Depot lumber runs. I had a local shop do it for $600 yesterday since the piano black finish will show any scratch quickly.

All done! Took 2.5hrs to assemble and I kept a blanket on the roof. The grab handles are Agency 6. The mounting brackets are simple but ingenious. Was pretty self explanatory and I love a vendor that always gives extra bolts washers and nuts for the one that gets lost.

Are you going to keep it on or take it on/off in occasion?

Taking on and off would be a royal pain! It is now a permanent part of the Rivian. I can’t imagine it would affect range that much and I use my roof rack pretty often hauling all kinds of things.

How is wind noise?
Did you use loctite on the bolts?
Can you take a top down pic so we can see crossbars?

Yes it comes with more loctite than you need. I’m glad I have a power ratchet that makes it much faster than hand turning.

The key to installing this is keep all bolts finger tight until everything is installed on the car. Then tighten up once everything you want installed is on. I also have 4 extra cross bars as I didn’t want to put too many on and I can always add them later.

I bought the front fairing wind seal extra but one came with my parts so I wouldn’t buy it extra.

I haven’t taken it out on the highway yet but I’m guessing the wind noise will be negligible as it was on my 4Runner but time will tell. Either way it is useful for me and not just about aesthetics especially with the glass roof

Tip for installing the wind fairing. Put the bolts on the T nuts real loose first and then it will slide on the support rack. Much easier than trying to line them up in the rack.

The mounting feet are numbered 1-3. 1 goes in the front of the car and 3 in the rear. The rest is pretty self explanatory. I also used 2 folding tables to assemble the basics of it which was just the feet and center bar and had my wife help me put it up. The tables were very helpful then going to the ground for so many things.

Does the fairing mount to a normal crossbar or is it a specialized mounting bar?

A regular cross bar will work. They supply a non black bar specifically for the fairing mount.

Took it on the highway and there is definitely more wind noise but it is subtle and minor. I can hear it kick in around 40mph+ but it is not bad at all to my ear. I hear more of the OEM 20 AT tire drone than the wind noise.

We had a Prinsu rack on our Land Cruiser, and it was awesome. Glad to see it come to the R1S...now how to convince my wife....

I’ve got nothing to add to what @Nano already posted. I may have had fun with some vinyl and the double ply metal side rails.
I am however 14 bolts short - I can’t place three cross bars OR the fairing cross bar. A bit disappointed the kit was short bolts. Also they shipped the normal fairing not the light bar cutout one - so have to get that replaced.

Also - what are the 10 large rubber washers for - could not find a use for them. And is the black silicone to glue the fairing trim on?
