ICE only :(
I think battery pack size as well. For those of us with max pack who were considering downgrading, it makes no sense to be locked into the max pack. In fact, previously they were calling people asking them to downgrade to take earlier delivery!
Hmm... yes, as an R1S reservation holder, I keep forgetting that the Max pack is a thing. :) I'll edit that into my maybe list, along with Adventure/Explore. I can see arguments both ways on that one, since you don't really need to see a larger battery pack to decide. But... they haven't released final range numbers on it. So... "maybe". Would be the better approach for rebuilding trust, for sure.

If I’m ā€œlocking inā€ my configuration and price now, then I expect it to go into production sooner than preorders that haven’t been converted to a sold order.

I’m ready to buy the thing now and was ready when I first configured.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying there isn’t an argument against it, but we all complained about the unexplained email and the lack of context surround the price increase to begin with; this pricing policy just makes a lot more sense to me.

Frankly, it probably would make the most sense for them to publicly say that you can’t (just to discourage the abuse) but give css the power to override if you are ā€œfinalizingā€ your config and understand that any further changes will revert to new pricing.
I’m no expert at how the online configurator is, uh…configured but would think programmers would need to code a legacy version for all of us eligibles to play around with the pre March 1 pricing.
Seems easier just to tag our order and figure it out with our guide come order time?

Fully agree, some warning would have been nice if they wanted us to finalized the config on a configurator that THEY ENCOURAGED US TO PLAY AROUND WITH, with options that most of us have never seen in person and there is very limited info on. Not to mention the options you choose may drastically change delivery date.

They were obviously planning this price increase for a while, and could have easily told us that prices were going up, you have 2 days/1 week/2 weeks etc to lock in what you want at the old prices - and even said you need to order/commit at that point. Instead, they chose to spring a surprise price hike on us. Then were forced to backtrack, now they are screwing up the backtrack and pissing off a lot of people who were willing to forgive them after RJ's email.

Not a good look from the customer engagement officer.

As many have said, my biggest issue with any sort of lock-in is with exterior & interior color choices. I've seen a handful of vehicles in person, but I still have yet to see either exterior or interior color I had chosen. And both are a pretty big gamble if I don't like them (as in I'd almost certainly reject the vehicle if it came in and I didn't like it).

There's also a lot of uncertainty about how some of these choices might push your order out. When I originally had the R1T configured, it had the max pack. When the estimated delivery date came out as "2nd half of 2023", I switched to the standard pack, hoping I would have a new estimate by end of January or February. We still don't have an updated delivery date. If I find out I'm still not getting the truck until 2023, I probably would have switched back to the max pack.

So even "you have 2 weeks to lock in your order" is pretty ridiculous, because there's a lot of unanswered questions.

That being said, I think many options could be "keep your price for now, if you change it after X date, you get the new price". I also think there should be a flexibility in the option to change your order based on how close you are to production, especially if those changes are mostly superficial (such as exterior/interior color).

I find it funny that the price increases all happened in like a day but the roll back will take several weeks. I'm honestly still on the fence about getting the TRX instead.
The price increase didn't materialize in a day. It was in the pipeline for weeks (or longer). As customers, we simply weren't told until they were ready to press "execute".

I put down a deposit three years ago with the express purpose of waiting for the inevitable price increase so I could select all the high priced adventure gear at my locked-in price so I could sell on eBay for a quick profit. Now Rivian has saw through my ā€œabuseā€ and thwarted me again!

Par for the course with communications from Rivian, this email has left us with more questions than answers.

Same here. I kept my R1T LE and canceled my Max Pack R1T. No email either. I don't think it matters as I'm hoping for my Guide contact this week.
Same. I never canceled my R1T. I'm a 12/8/2018 preorder, how about you?

I agree, paint and interior should be eligible to change.

Curious if they will only allow the 3/1 config, or ANY previous config? I’m pretty sure at one point I had every option.
I agree with possible exception of the color white. White had been an included color. On the new price schedule, white is now a $1500 option. On the new price schedule the only included color is silver.

I think what they are doing is completely fair. They are basically eating the 12k cost difference in the quad motor and large battery pack. No one is locked into a config, if you want to change your paint color go ahead.. But it may cost more. We always knew the price could change.

The sense of entitlement from some people is amazing to me.

If you don't like it you can always cancel. :)

I hear everyone’s concern about this letter(which I didn’t get).
did you get in touch with customer service to get reinstated? I am trying to see what is the difference between people that got the letter and those who didn’t.
