That theory would not explain the delay in getting 20" spares to customers. Or keeping out of the Rivian Gear Shop.
Actually it does. Because a car with a spare gets even worse mileage than a car with only 4 20” wheels. So to keep the averages up they need to sell more non-spare/21” vehicles.

Not buying this story. Does anyone think Rivian is going to sit on millions of dollars of inventory for weeks/months, when all it would take is updating the web site to show different EPA ranges?
Why would they sit on inventory. They probably bought the tires in the right proportions to meet the EPA standard. Why wouldn’t they?

You're missing the point of that post, which meant that 20"s are not even available as an accessories in the Gear Shop, or as fulfillment to already sold R1Ts without spare 20"s. Both of these have nothing to do with mileage count whatsoever.

Switching to 21" may help you, but don’t bet on it. I‘ve had them on my config for two months and my guide (who I‘ve had for almost three months) seemingly has no idea what‘s up with my order.
