I also use the "let me buy you guys lunch" style as mentioned above. Any driver who delivers the car unscathed is getting tipped for sure just like anyone else who delivers furniture or something bigger than a normal UPS package. And it's sort of a sliding scale depending on how expensive or heavy and difficult the delivery might be.

But I'm picking up at the service center so it might be delivery by committee - no idea. I plan to bring a big box of pastries from my local spot (who also needs the extra business after covid shutdowns) just as a "nice to meet you guys" thing. If there are specific delivery specialist(s) I'll be "buying them lunch."

Assuming all goes well, my guide will also be getting something in the mail.

Just my 2 cents. This is kind of new territory for the car buying experience and I can also understand those who see it differently.

I like your ideas. Thanks

Most places that have a no tipping policy also have a general MO of "if it's going to make the customer extremely angry if I won't take it, I will". So usually, phrasing it as a done deal (lunch) and refusing to accept the return will get it in their pocket.

Having said that, I wouldn't tip, but if I would do anything it might be a small gift card to a place nearby.

I run a good size maple syrup operation as a side business and tipped them a quart of maple syrup. Some how seems less demeaning than money. Maybe get something locally made that you enjoy and share that with them. It's a win win for small business and an employee.

( I own 2 small businesses so I think about this a lot)
I mean you’re basically giving them a bottle of actual gold. No one would refuse that!

If I'm taking delivery at my house I might smoke a pork butt or something to send them home with some good food but I don't think any cash will be changing hands.

What’s the difference between a crappy customer and a canoe?

Canoes tip.

I kid, I kid. Sorta.
