I wouldn't tell people what I paid for it (or anything else). I will probably just say "they are priced at around $80k now but I didn't pay that much"

On the price issue I don't have a problem saying but I will also caveat that I have a lower price because I had an early pre-order and that base price is different now.

How does everyone approach the "how much does it cost" question. I have been saying "I paid $70k for it" which is technically true, but obviously if you put in an order for that same truck now it would be over $90k. Curious to see what everyone else is saying to that question.
People often ask "is it ok if I ask how much it costs" - I reply "that's public information on the internet, so no worries with me telling you. My truck is pretty fully optioned out and I paid about $85k, but they raised the prices, so now it's upper 90's"

"That's a lot" - "not much more than an optioned out full sized pickup and less than you can get a new TRX for"

Well after 24hr of ownership.... It is fun. Some of my friends came by today at work and I let them go around the block in it. Nobody came back with out a smile... I am still playing with settings and features and the owners manual is great to help with directions. I have been answering questions all day about. But I agree that answering the same questions gets old quick but I have to remember, I would hope someone would indulge me if I asked.

I hate getting the cost question. I'm very self-conscious about answering. My wife and I aren't rich, exactly, but we do well for our town and are in the top probably 75% of income if I had to guess. So I just never want to feel like I'm boasting. But I digress.

The afternoon I picked up the truck, I was driving north of 93 outside of Boston and I had a car in the lane next to me very erratically speed up and slow down like 4 times, never really going past me at all. Finally I looked over and saw the driver fumbling with his cell phone. I guess that'll do it

I have loved the questions and inquiries i‘ve gotten about the R1T. I had a similar experience as an early Tesla adopter and it feels like those days again. I love seeing people who might not have heard about the brand get excited and want to pre-order for themselves. Plus the more popularity the truck/suv and Rivian brand get the more tech and new products for the get developed for owners.

I always say "it's comperable to a fully loaded 1/2 ton, trucks are expensive now but cost to operate it is far less". I feel like that is an accurate statement.

I drive alot of "flashy" vehicles and I get stopped pretty frequently. The money question is rare, (its usually by teenagers and 20 somethings...)

but the nicer the inquiry the nicer the response... example

random person - "I love this truck, if you dont mind me asking, how much do these usually cost?"

me - "this model retails for about 86k and you'll get it next year, if you want one now its about 110k"

random person - "awesome thank you very much!"

---------------------------------------------------------

the not so nice inquiries will invoke some sass to them... example

not nice random person - "how much was that truck?"

me - "this one as you see it was about 86k or so"

not nice random person - "thats wayy too expensive"

me - "if you make alot of money like myself, why its not very expensive at all!"

----------------------------------------------------------

fellow rivian owner - "nice how do you like your 22s?, how's your axle click?"

me - "thank you, love them!, I have an appointment with the service center next month!"

fellow rivian owner - "same here! are you post or pre price increase?"

me - "post!"

fellow rivian owner - "worth every penny arent they!"

me - "they sure are!"

(both drive away with non functional tonneau covers)
