This reminds me of a silly story, but I want to preface this with the hope that it's received with humor instead of unconstructive ill will toward your wife. I'm supportive of the technology Tesla's developing despite the fact that they're just not for me. I think your wife should get a Tesla and not think twice - Sounds like it's "her" car.

So I go to the granola store (whole foods, like a good virtue signaling granola muncher), park, and my wife and I get out. So far, so good.

There's a doctor sitting outside having her lunch and sees the R1T and comes up to talk. Okay - cool.

"Do you like it?"

"Yeah it's mind blowing"

(Cuts me off) "Yeah I have a model x but I have a reservation for the SUV! What do you like about it!?"

"Oh man where to begi-"

"Did you buy it because it chirps!?"

"..."

"That's my favorite thing about it! That's what made me reserve one!"

She went on for another couple minutes about the lock chirp...

My wife and I still joke about how ridiculous that whole exchange was and still look at each other and say "did you buy it because it chirps" any time we're reminded of the silly reasons people spend so much money.

The self park feature is that equivalent to us so I instantly went to "did you buy it because it chirps!?" in my brain.

I understand this being a want, but why is this a NEED for her? Not attacking, just seems like a strange need. You say she's fine at parking, but then why the need for the feature? Is she at all insecure about parking or the dimensions of the vehicle? I'm with several others here who have used it more than once and no longer use it because it's error prone, slow, and frankly embarrassing to be seen struggling with.
Mostly to do with the dimensions of the R1S. Our other vehicle is also a three row SUV but of course R1S is taller etc.

Totally agree it does not fall under the 'needs' category.

No offense taken.

since it was mentioned, self park is much larger in the scheme of things compared to a chirp. But I get the gist

All I can say is over the last few years the worst class of drivers are Tesla owners. Now I don't now if this is due to AutoPilot or something else but when I pass them they don't appear to be 'driving'. Self Park is not something I would use, nor have I on previous vehicles. I get the desire, sure fine.

I don't want to sound like an a$$hole, but how about she learns how to park?

Regardless of lease ending decision, it seems like a basic driving know-how...
we have a R1T and a model Y - and for some reason my wife compares the features all the time too - go figure

BTY - I went to the atlanta service center the other day for a tire rotation, cabin airfilter, wiper blades, a multipoint inspection etc.... staff was great - really good experience.

Well, perhaps you have been observing Tesla drivers more maybe? there are way more # of vehicles and hence drivers from any number of other automakers than Tesla.

Furthermore, such kind of sweeping generalization is not helping anyone, especially EV owners like us - since we will be lumped into the same category.

It is strange, Toyota had a self-parallel-parking feature shipping on vehicles back in 2003. Yet many modern way-higher-tech vehicles don't have it. I don't even need the Tesla "go put the car away for me", I just want "pull up next to another car, press a button, hover my foot over the brake, and the car parallel parks itself."

My BMW i3 had it, and it had no side or front cameras, it did it solely on backup camera+ultrasonic parking sensors. The 2003 Toyota did it with just a backup camera.

My brother had several Teslas and currently has a S and X. Although FSD was scary when I sat in his X; with the way he drives, the FSD is actually safer. I'm sure there are many people like him on the road.

When he summoned his car parking right next to my house; with just a simple backup and forward, both times (he tried it twice), the car ended up in my neighbor's driveway and just beeps.

Allow me to provide my perspective on the R1S parking camera configuration.

I find the current setup to be somewhat inconvenient. It requires frequent shifting of my attention between the central display and the screen behind the steering wheel, which displays distance warnings. This process feels awkward, and even after three months of usage, I still find it cumbersome.

In comparison, my previous vehicle, the Palisade, offered a much more user-friendly and efficient reverse parking experience.

Also, I do not fully trust the HDA in the R1S as it has, at times, made some jerky movements at high speeds. And often cannot be activated (perhaps those are occasions where it has little information on the highway but not sure).

I believe these features are more important in terms of improvement rather than a full self-parking system.

My R1 has a worse sound system than the ELS on my TL. When I was shopping for wife's car, we looked at Model S 60. There was a long list of things the MS didn't have or do better than TL, including speed. That's how it goes. No one or nothing can be better than everyone and everything.
Funny thing you bring up Acura, I thought that for my former vehicle ('11 MDX) the audio was great, especially with the Sony DVD-A stuff. I can say that only one song made feel immersive when I spent money on eBay on Metallica's Black album again, and that was Enter Sandman. Sad, but true.

On my MYP, I am really impressed, especially with the fact that it's all streamed, maybe because it's a hatchback and smaller? Wife did not like me going smaller. ?

Please have him share that video for our pleasure!

To this day, I don't understand how anyone actually thought that their Tesla could drive them to their destination while falling asleep at the wheel. This was years before in cabin cameras were introduced in Tesla vehicles. Hell, this FSD 12 is still crap.
