Safelite Windshield Gap

Had my R1S windshield replaced at Safelite (much smoother experience with insurance) yesterday. They did the install and calibration and everything went well, or so I thought. I didn't look closely when I picked it up, but noticed when I got home that there is about a 1/4" gap on the sides and top of the windshield. I don't remember that from the original. Is the glass just too small, or is there a missing rubber seal around the edges? Or am I just nor remembering correctly and this is normal? I didn't notice any wind noise driving home.

Had my windshield replaced by Rivian recently. There is a gap on the top and sides. Later today I can check our other Rivian that still has its original windshield.

Thanks for the pictures of the gaps. Appears the gap is normal, but mine is missing a rubber strip in the gap. You can see right down to the paint in the gap on mine is some spots. Hopefully Safelite mobile service can come out and install that piece.

The color must attract rocks. Before I had the windshield replaced I caught at least three more small rocks and ensuing pits on a much slower speed road. Now that I have the TWraps film installed I don’t think I’ve heard a single pebble it the windshield since installing that in early May. Go figure.

Got a garden hose? Does it leak? Is wind noise worse? How much does the visual appearance bother you?

This is why many warnings against Safelite (lesser version of safe?) have been raised in past threads/posts. It pays to keep tabs on shared experiences… instead of checking in only when trouble is encountered firsthand. Not meant to scold. Just a “heads up”.
