Happy to address this price change. There's two things at play here:I appreciate the analysis... the company has bumped the price $5.00 (23%) following your post so someone definitely owes you a beer.
- With any new product launch we have to come in low to encourage orders on a new listing with little to no reviews. That's the price we have to pay to generate traffic and awareness on the Amazon platform.
- On top of that this testing did definitely bump our sales volume above our expected volume which means we will very likely run out of inventory before we can restock. As a result we have paid a higher fee and significantly higher shipping rate to expedite our production and delivery.
Though we hope to get our costs back down after this rush order, there are still much more expensive options out there, including Rivian's $35 filter.

I know some of you are waiting on a few updates.
The short of it is: they're very much in progress (I haven't abandoned or forgotten, or even de-prioritized this effort). A combination of scheduling conflicts with our equipment, my AE being on business travel and the holidays have gotten in the way.
I'm hoping to have some updates by the end of next week, and if not very early the following week.

OK, so here's a quick update. There's more going on in the background, but not as ready for update as we'd hoped (got some filter samples that were...improperly sized).
K&N
It's definitely not a HEPA, nor anywhere near HEPA grade filtration.
We're hitting over 60% penetration.
So, I'd take this as a "filters visible dust particulate" type of filter. The good news is, you'll always have plenty of air flow. The bad news is, you're not actually filtering any of the allergenic particulate you'd otherwise be concerned with. You won't filter VOCs or odors either.
My other concern is that the sides of the K&N filter aren't very rigid and don't create a conforming seal. Given the architecture of the Rivian Cabin Filter cradle, it's highly likely you'll get leakage around the edges of the K&N cabin filter as well:
We did attempt to close up that gap to see if it'd improve the test results, but it did not, which informs us that the filter media itself is insufficient for HEPA filtration. To be fair, they DO NOT advertise HEPA performance. All other things being equal, I don't see an upside to using the K&N filter. It's better than using absolutely nothing at all, for sure, but only by a ~40% margin...
For due diligence, we DID repeat the test at 85 SLPM. I won't bore you with more screen shots. It was still at >63% penetration.

K&N is a marketing company, not a filter company. Everything they make is some variation of garbage or overpriced barely-working crap. They were last useful in the 80s at best.

Best EV Mod has released their new HEPA filter, and here's their thread.
Their performance, as I measured it, is here:
(Recall from page 1: "Target" in this case is comparing to the OEM Rivian Filter).
Looks like a great alternative. I'd suggest both EveryAmp and Best EV Mod are both great options for your aftermarket cabin filter needs, based on what we were able to test.
CAVEAT: As I stated in my initial writeup: I am not legally able to certify HEPA filters. I am testing to a baseline using calibrated test equipment that follow all industry standards, regulations, protocols, and are tested under the scrutiny of all governing bodies. But we (especially since we Engineer and build the equipment) are not ourselves a certified test facility, so please keep this in mind
That said, I have a high degree of confidence in this filter, as tested, and will likely be installing this one in my wife's R1S.

Therefore, we kindly ask all customers who purchased the older version air filter to provide us with your order ID and address. We will send a new H14 air filter to all customers who bought the older version.

It's a great offer. I ordered the new one, and consider my nine months to be a reasonable value for the tiny cost. I replace them at least yearly anyway. Always great to see a vendor give a shit. Also since this is a Hyundai part, does it also fit their EVs?
