It all depends on the accessory being plugged in. If you did decide to put it on the top of the tub, you would want an adapter along the lines of this:

I went a bit overboard on my install. Here is what I used:

12V Plug Housing:

Did you find that right angle adapter was necessary? It literally looks like the recess on the original tub is only like a half inch.

I could just put an xt60 surface mount plug in or something like an Anderson connector and just have a dongle for the 12 volt if it's really going to be an issue.

The adapter is necessary depending on the type of 12V plug you're working it, and if you plan on using the 12V outlet with the hood closed.

I think the location of the 12V plugs per Rivian's design was chosen by: a) being out of the way from frunk contents, and b) only being used when the vehicle was stationary and the frunk/hood is open. Just my $0.02.

If you have any devices in mind that would be used in the frunk with the hood closed, measure how long they are and see if the plug or wiring from the plug would contact the closed hood.
