Whether to buy an extended warranty at the new-car dealership depends on how likely you are to keep the vehicle beyond the manufacturer's warranty. I've been offered extended warranties right up to the last day of the manufacturer's warranty, so unless you know for sure at the time of purchase that you'll keep the vehicle a long time and the dealer is offering one at a big discount, I would wait.
Of course on waiting. The cars have just started to get delivered and it will be years until any R2 owner is out of warranty. There’s no need to buy anything now or at delivery.

In the same vein as the folks saying wait...
I figure if I have a lot of issues during the regular warranty period, I will. If I don't, I won't.

I never have before, but that's mostly because I did stuff to the vehicle that voided warranty anyway. All the parts I would upgrade, modify, or otherwise change don't exist on an R2 so I'm in uncharted territory for me.

[Edit: If suspension spacers void the warranty, then that'll answer the question for me. My R2 is getting a modest lift when the parts appear on the market.]
