I reserved an R1S way back in November 2021. Just got notice to confirm my config a few weeks ago so I did, then on Friday of last week I got a new delivery window of Dec-Jan. So I checked the shop and there was our exact config, ready in 1-2 weeks, so I grabbed it. Got a text from Rivian late this afternoon (Monday) asking if I could be ready to take delivery on Friday or Saturday. That escalated quickly.
Here's my question. I'm applying for a loan through Navy Fed (just 4.99% for up to 60 months - best I found). They ask a couple questions I don't know the answer to. First, they ask if I know the exact vehicle or just want preapproval. I don't see the VIN anywhere in my account on the website so I started applying for reapproval. Then it asked me if I am buying from a dealer or a private seller. If I choose the wrong one I'll have to submit a new application, which will hit my credit report a second time, so I really want to avoid that but I'm not sure which answer to give. I am in Texas where car companies can't sell direct, only dealers can, and can't talk about price in person. To buy you have to go through their website and pay online. When I bought my Tesla several years ago I had to go register it myself and pay the tax at the Comptroller's office. So is Rivian considered a private party seller in Texas, or are they considered a dealer for purposes of financing? If anyone knows for sure I'd appreciate hearing from you. Thanks!
