Long time lurker but I don't post a lot. But I have a question.

The other day I used my Gen 2 R1S to stay somewhere overnight. Luna mattress and "Heat Shields" on the windows make this super comfortable, private, and lots cheaper than getting a hotel on Cape Cod. :)

There was a Level 2 Charging Station there so this was quite handy. I parked, put the truck into camping mode, set "Manage energy" to on, and turned off the displays. I wanted the A/C on as it was high-70's and humid. I set the temp to 70F.

I am very aware that the truck does not turn off in this mode but I value my comfort. :). I also did not need very much additional charge for the return trip. Indeed, I was worried that, while sleeping, I would be fully charged and that would be a problem.

What I did not expect was that 3 hours later, with a solid 7.7kW being fed from the charger, my charge level had dropped by 2%. I turned off Manage Power and, as expected, was charging at the expected rate.

The next day for the 1 1/2 hour return trip, temp high-80's, the energy monitor reported my using roughly 4kWh for non-propulsion during the drive. But the overnight experience implies the truck was using ~8kWh in camping mode!

I have done car camping in the past and, while charging was certainly slower, did give me additional power.

Anyone have any idea what I (or the truck) did wrong?

Camping mode even with outlets and AC should not use anywhere near 7.7kW. What was your charge limit set at? Did you have a charging schedule set? Why were you worried about being “fully charged” - wouldn’t you just set your limit wherever you wanted it to stop charging? Did you ever confirm that charging started when you plugged it in?
