Tesla subscription works the same way. You sign up and it's good for 30 days. It will bill you again at the 30 day mark, or not bill you if you cancel. Just like EA.

I don't road trip that often, 3 times year and they're not huge trips. So I only subscribe if needed. With EA, the Pass+ subscription was a no-brainer since it paid for itself with the first charge on the road trip. I think for my next road trip here in a month, I'll wait to subscribe until just before I charge and go from there. Would like to be able to just subscribe to one or the other and not both.

How do you ensure it charges via Tesla app vs Rivian plug & charge (for the discounted rate)?

I *think the answer is initiate in the Tesla app first, before plugging into vehicle and wait for prompts, correct?

Correct. If you just plug, it’ll start charging right away and will be billed through Rivian. For the subscription price, initiate the charge via the Tesla app by selecting the particular charger used.

I have done many road trips in Teslas and still kept Model S for that purpose even after getting R1S. For our upcoming trip ABRP estimates 2100kWh during 17hours for R1S and 1400kWh during 12hrs of charging for the S.
The sub would be certainly be worth it for the R1, but I would miss the convenience of the S. Decisions, decisions

It would be nice if plug-n-charge could tell difference between member/non-member. The minute or so extra to initiate thru Tesla app is not exactly a burden though.

I've decided that no monthly charging plan is worth it for me, especially now with the options to use Tesla, EA, Rivian, EVgo, etc. If I only used one brand and did it more often I could see it being worth it, but with so many options I definitely don't want to have subscription plans to all of them.

I used to just get EA pass+ for a roadtrip when that was more or less the only option, but that's not worth it for me anymore.
