Hey all, fellow Long Islander here - R1T pre-ordered June 2022 so I'll be a "soon to be owner" for a while. Rivian came by my house yesterday (E Northport) for my First Mile test drive and I'm even more excited than I was (if that was even possible).

I've been a Tesla Model 3P owner for 3 years now and while it's been the best car experience I've had, I think the bar will be moved with the R1T.

Hope to participate in some community activities in the future.

One question for you other New Yorkers - did they ever change the registration requirements in NY to allow a heavy pickup truck like the R1T to be registered as a regular passenger vehicle instead of commercial?

Curious how you got a test drive. I reserved an R1S in May/June 2022 but haven't heard anything. I'm very interested in checking these out.

I'll be out on Long Island for Thanksgiving and the day after. If anyone sets up a meet I'll join, but Rivian-less...

As they change their model configuration I'll keep my options open. I too have a Tesla 3 but not a performance model, love the car. It basically does everything well. I'm concerned about on-the-road charging for the R1S. It's going to be hard to match the Tesla network.

You likely heard but the Tesla network is opening up to CCS vehicles. So far, the Shirley SuperCharger is the only one equipped with the infrastructure on Long Island but it will eventually be at all locations.
