We won’t be getting our R1T until late 2022 (max pack) but since this is our first pickup truck and first time off roading, any advice so we can prepare? We will be getting the Truck with the tent and kitchen and plan to use it to continue to explore the desert southwest (we live in St. George UT during the winters).

thanks

It will be a transition. Once you have a bed in the back, don't be surprised if that fancy sound system gravitate toward country songs. You may start developing a southern accent. Also you will not only be driving a Rivian, you will be driving a pickup so you have to be ready for the attention:

It will be a slippery slope. With every mile you drive, you may become a little more racist than usual without noticing it.

Don't go off-roading by yourself. Tame stuff like dirt/gravel roads are okay; but don't venture into the hairy stuff without company.

On a more serious note there is a certain sense of freedom and control over your destiny that comes with owning a pickup and security of that full size spare in your bed. You will like that bed in the back. Enjoy it.

p.s. always keep a bunch of tie downs, straps and bungees in the truck. You will find a lot of new friends that want you to move something.

Yeah I second companions, you need someone to record videos of you doing dumb things. Like mudding in a Prius...

My .02 cents, trucks become a lifestyle. As someone else mentioned, be prepared for a lot of "friends" to come out of the woodwork asking for you to help them move. That said, bed in these things is pretty small. Don't bite off more than you can chew -- or offer to haul someone's king-size mattress, LOL.

Personally I need a truck to haul tools for work and am on waiting lists for all of the EV trucks. Good luck with yours, am sure you'll give it a good home.

Side note: what's the deal on the camp kitchen? I saw on another thread that these things don't even exist yet except in demo models. Are you definitely confirmed for a kitchen in late 2022? Cool! ?
