I am going to do the Christmas lights thing on my R1T, string them w/zip ties on the racks. Did a test of plugging lights into the outlet & nothing....is there a switch or setting to make them active?

You can also activate the Outlets from the Camping page in addition to the Energy page. Turn on the Auto toggle on the outlets to have them turn on whenever the vehicle is on (while you are driving it). You can also manually set a Timer to leave the outlets on for a specified time, which, for your use case, is nice if you're going to be parked outside in a parking lot at night.

Be aware that using the timer to leave the outlets on while parked has a much higher battery drain than you would expect from powering a string of LEDs that consume 3 Watts of power. To have the outlets on, several computers need to be powered up, which makes it use more like 500 Watts of power from the main battery. I haven't paid too much attention to it yet, but that would be consuming about 1 mile of range for each hour the lights are on while parked. When the vehicle is being driven, that ~500 Watts of power is dwarfed by the 30,000 Watts (or 30 kW) of power that the motors are consuming, so it's lost in the noise.

I'm showing my ignorance here but figured you might advise something like that. I couldn't find an Energy app or Camping app

Swipe up from the icons in the bottom center of the main screen. (the area with the horizontal line above the music note and car drivetrain in the image below)

There are 6 or 7 main apps that you can select; there are several that are shown always, one icon for the last app you used, then you can swipe up to see the remaining options.

PS: I do not like the Rivian Owener's Guide - needs a few pictures in there in addition to the hundreds of pages of text...

If you set the outlets to "auto" then anytime you use the vehicle, the Christmas lights will turn on.
