Thought I’d start a separate thread on this topic since it seems lots of early owners are getting attention from the general public. So post up your stories here!

Here’s mine. I was driving on I-15S thru Pocatello, ID over July 4 weekend. Had just stopped for a charge at the EA station there and gotten back on the highway when I blew by a state trooper sitting in the median. Well known speed trap through there, but I wasn’t paying attention. Long story short, I get pulled. Officer approaches and says “”The reason I pulled you was because you were going 66 in a 55 (I had cruise set at 70, but that’s a different thread ?), but I really just wanted to check out this truck.” We had a nice chat about the truck, and he ran my license and (temp) registration, and sent me on my way. No ticket, no warning. Great guy. Hats off to all the LEO’s out there.

My wife and I were leaving a restaurant and walking back to my R1T. We found two guys — looked like a mid-30’s guy and his father — checking out my truck a little TOO closely. I’m used to people gawking, but these guys made me uncomfortable. Normally people ask inquisitive and innocent questions like “what is it” and “who makes it” and “where is it made”; but these guys had different questions that rubbed me a bit odd: “how much did you pay” and “are you going to do truck things” — and then some condescending comments about how MY truck ‘things’ aren’t REAL truck things (because apparently you’re not a man if you don’t roll-coal Priuses).

After they left, I looked at Gear Gaurd and my skeeved-out vibe was reinforced as I helplessly watched those asshats man-handle my truck — touching everything, trying to pull handles, trying to look in every window with their hands+face pressed up against the glass. Looking at the windows I could see their greasy prints.

All around it was a poor experience, and entirely unlike every other curious, but friendly stranger I’ve met.

Did the gear guard alarm go off when they touched and like trying to manhandled your truck? If not, what is the use of the security alarm??

Nope. I’ve never heard the alarm go off. There’s video posted of someone getting their window smashed in the R1T and the perp climbs into the vehicle — still no alarm. It may not work, at all, right now.
