So envious. I would happily trade less space in the garage for more space in the vehicle!

Hopefully one day Rivian will make a R1S that is the same size as the R1T.

I can't imagine how you gents do it. SC gave me a R1T loaner and I didn't even try to fit it in the garage. Felt bad leaving it outside but didn't want to chance hitting anything with a loaner.

The Count's solution will result in 4,200 square feet of newly finished space for cars by March 2024, including a 16 foot high ceiling for when he is old enough to buy an RV or a bus.
This is what I want to do. But I have to find someone who actually wants to take on this sort of a construction project because I want to make the garage match the house and connect but on the side like an auto court. Not sure how many sq feet I can do in the proposed location but I want 3 bays at least and I want it to connect to the existing garage. The whole covid thing really screwed up labor down here and it's extremely difficult to find contractors who will show up.

The Count's new construction is on his 24 acre estate where the new building fits in perfectly. At first he was planning to add space at his city cottage but both in terms of matching the extant design and having stricter building codes dissuaded him. Today was a glorious day, as many people already know, because concrete was poured for the new building. The Count's staff will sit throughout the night, armed, to ensure no wayward possums meander across and leave their print.

The Count is old and plans to die with zero so you need to take his spending with a grain of salt and a dram or three of scotch.

Don't be like me.

With my first R1T, I insisted on the gymnastics required to get it in and out of our garage. The first issue was when I ripped the passenger side mirror off. That was $1,500. The second was when I backed it into the house, ripped the rear quarter panel, and totaled the truck.

The new R1T stays in the driveway.

So my advice is this. If you are going to wedge it in there, either be prepared for the eventual damage and drama/cost that causes, park in the driveway, or commit yourself to being patient and diligent 100 fricking percent of the time in and out of the garage.

If you put a trailer hitch on don’t forget to take it off before parking in the garage. It may put a krinkle in the bottom of your garage door.

And mine!
Rivian Garage Door.jpg

I have a laser parking assist that helps me make sure I'm in far enough. When we got the Rivian I parked it exactly where I wanted it with 2 inches to the door and then aimed the laser so that it hits the seam on the top of the dash in front of the steering wheel. What I didn't think about was that Rosey was in "kneel" mode so I'm actually about 3 inches to the door - a bit of a safety margin.
Can you provide the laser parking assist you purchased>

I have the Park Right Laser Assist (I bought it when I could fit two cars in the garage), but if you only need one laser you can also buy a single unit. Basically mount it on the ceiling above the car and then park the Rivian exactly where you want it and adjust the "dot" so that it's in a place that you can easily replicate. In my case it's the stitched seam dead-center above the driver's screen. I'll try to take a photo of the dot later today when I take the car out so you can see.

The motion sensor activates the dot automatically as I pull in so you see the dot moving towards you on the hood until it gets to your "stop spot." It works well for me and, more importantly, for my wife. We've used it for years (including pre-Rivian).
