Picked up our R1T this past Sunday 6/5 from their South San Francisco Hub in California. We've been a Tesla household since 2015 and are loving the R1T. It's my new preferred daily driver, except for a current issue I'm waiting on service to resolve. Maybe someone else has had this issue resolved already.

On the drive home from pickup I stopped at an Electrify America charger to top off. Upon finishing that charge and hoping in to leave I started getting alarms that the hood was open and not latched. As soon as you go into gear it would start freaking out and beeping constantly. I never opened the hood after leaving the hub. I called roadside and they had me push and wiggle on the front center of the hood. After a few tries the alarm cleared and I finished my trip home without incident.

The next day, Monday, it was fine in the morning but then came back in the afternoon. That day I submitted a service ticket to have it looked at. The good news is that it still drives without limitation when alarming, so I'm never stuck. But it does constantly chime at you, prevents music from playing, phone calls, cruise control, lane keeping, and can't be opened or closed either. Pushing on the hood doesn't always resolve it anymore.

I have it occur every day, numerous times a day since taking delivery. It has yet to happen in the morning and will eventually go away while driving and then return some time later. Not sure if it's heat related with some type of thermal expansion either causing a faulty wire harness signal or a bad sensor positioning or perhaps the latch is actually bad and the power actuator arms are just holding it down... Here's a video of what it's like. Hoping to get this resolved quickly and will be my first test of service, living over 200 miles away from the closest location. Service ticket was submitted 6/6, still awaiting a plan or scheduled service date.

Nope never seen that one, I am sure service will need to look at that. Good luck, hopefully an easy fix.

I believe this guy has your same issue. This is part 3 of his hood error I guess: search for Doingit Russ on YouTube if these videos don’t load.

That's just the "email received from Rivian" notification sound.

I received my R1T on Thursday 6/9. The first time I took it out of the neighborhood and got about 40mph I received the lesser warning that states something like "Hood Latch is not operating correctly" which is a white box with red text. I pulled over, opened and closed the hood and the notification cleared.

Day 2 (6/10) it happened intermittently and in the afternoon the warning increased to the red box that was more ominous: "Hood Open. Stop Driving Immediately." I called Customer Service and they suggested an infotainment system reboot, stating that it seemed like software or sensor confusion and would be safe to drive. Reboot cleared the notification and I took the family out for a drive.

Both notifications started appearing and clearing very quickly. Again I was on side roads (not highways) so never over 45 mph. Some people have theorized that it is triggered by speed and others say heat. It possibly could have been heat for me. The notifications occurred at as little as 5mph, 20mph, 40mph and everywhere in between.

Pictures have been sent to service and I'm waiting for the 24-48 hour response and hoping that they can send a mobile tech to adjust or replace the latch or sensor.

I'll post an update when I hear back.

I rebooted and also did not correct the issue. Recently I've found that a few good launches will clear the alarm for me. Just another good reason to launch it. I've driven on the highway while going off and it seems to have no impact on performance.

That said Rivian is sending a tech to my house this Thursday 6/16 with a repair plan to fix it. I'll report back with what their repair is and if it works.

Seems like whatever microswitch the latch engages is ever so slightly out of whack

Still waiting on the service response to my Open Hood warnings.

However, after reading someone else's post, I performed a little CPR. Basically, I went to each corner of the hood and put my hands over where the latch is (approximately). I gave it five quick compressions. On one side I heard the faintest "click," like when the chiropractor cracks your back.

Since then, I have been 48 hours without the Open Hood warning! I have not opened the frunk to show anyone since it seems to be in a happy state. I'd still like service to confirm that it is functioning correctly mechanically and with the sensor. But for now -- blissful, alarm-free driving!

Ditto on my gear tunnel latch. I've found a few good "compressions" with my rubber mallet seems to help.

Having the same issue and this CPR method resolved it for me as well. It was a spot on the driver's side close to the windshield that I heard an audible *click* and the error went away. I did notice that the alignment is off on the hood on that side which may be contributing to the sensor error.

Mobile service came out yesterday. He said the bumper button to open the hood was saying it was being pressed when it wasn't and may be a contributing cause but wasn't replaceable via mobile since it requires the entire front fascia to be removed. He ended up replacing the hood latch and that seems to have resolved my issue. At least over the last 36 hours.

A new issue showed up the day before service where the power tonneau cover no longer fully opens and closes. He tried recalibrating it but it's just not cooperating anymore. Sounds like it's a common issue and should be fully replaced.

The front bumper hood button and tonneau cover are now on order for a visit to the service center soon.

Same issue here. Doesn’t happen every day but when it does it happens repeatedly. My observation is that it tends to happen when I exceed 75 mph. That leads me to think that it has to do with wind pressure lifting the hood. However, the first time it happened was after a short charging session sitting still.

I also have water accumulating inside my front passenger door after a hard rain. ?

I’ve had a service request in for weeks on the hood issue and have followed up a couple of times but still haven’t been given a date for pickup. I’m in NC and my service center is in Richmond. I really hope this isn’t typical of the response times we can expect from Rivian service.

Just happened to me yesterday as well. Not the full red screen with the 'hood is open' message but a black/white box saying 'hood latch not working - service vehicle soon' and a small red icon with a picture of the hood open and an exclamation point. I can still drive the vehicle but if I try to open/close the frunk to clear the error (which worked the first time it happened) now it doesn't close by itself and I have to manually push it down hard a few times for it to latch. Service ticket submitted.
