Has Rivian said anything about maintaining a parts inventory or self-maintenance?

Two things I get the impression Tesla does not do well, are these. For an off-roading vehicle I would think it would be even more important to not neglect cost, availability, and allowing DIY for a lot of repairs.

Like a lot of things Rivian hasn't provided much detail yet. The only thing I've heard so far is that they will provide "white glove" service. Meaning they will first attempt to diagnos/fix any problem remotely. If unable to, they will then come to you. If unable to fix on the spot they will flatbed your vehicle to nearest service center leaving you with a loaner.
