You should get what you ordered period. Any deviation should be explained to you prior to delivery....
OP - purchased a shop vehicle, not custom build. Both him and the salesperson missed the fact that it said right on the sticker that it had black mountain with no wood. Absolutely a bummer, but it was documented and both parties missed it
Thanks for the replies. I will add that the actual vehicle summary did say Black mountain....and that was it, no "+dark ashwood". So the vehicle summary is exactly as it should be. It was an oversite on both our parts. We were going back and forth on many available vehicles trying to nail down a "blue" one in stock and when he found this one he suggested it and that's what was ordered.

Very annoying, and I am sorry you had to deal with it. But, I am very not surprised.

I bought a Gen2 R1T Dual Standard when they first came available in September. I bought a shop configuration because Rivian was doing the F&F discount if it was delivered by end of month. My shop vehicle had an extra $200 for the chilewich mats vs "black mats". Two days later, they made the chilewich default and free on every truck. My truck has the suede headliner, but apparently that went away within weeks on the Standard.

All that is to say, while I love my truck and Rivian is full of really friendly, considerate people, this growing pain is one that is hard to love when we're all dropping a lot of money on these trucks.

I don't have a direct solution, I know many people want to customize their trucks to a great level with this price point, but the constant moving and shifting of parts (cubbies on R1S, suede headliner, 12V outlets, etc, etc) is a little much and this situation seems unavoidable because the staff cannot keep up with the changes either...

I've only got to think the havoc this creates in the service centers. Imagine all the parts and SKU's you need to have available/ready to order.

Tesla, like or hate them, wasn't wrong in building standard configs - do you want the white or black interior - and only customizing paint and wheels. They started out with wood vs. carbon fiber, tan interiors (still available on S/X), power sunroofs and all kinds of other things people "wanted". But had to trim back to reduce variations in order to cost-effectively scale. This isn't new either, Honda for a long time only had three basic trim levels - LX, EX, EX-L (an EX with Leather) and eventually a Touring (all the goodies). For the SUV models there was also 2WD or 4WD. That's it.

Rivian will hopefully learn some lessons here on R1 and have few variants of R2 available at launch - pick a color (white, black, silver), wheels (range, off-road) and one or two interiors (light, dark). Fewer SKU's needed for production, in higher volumes (driving down marginal costs), and easier to service/support.

I also got caught in the same time period with paid floor mats and a suede headliner. But I honestly feeling pretty lucky that I got a suede headliner and two under seat cubbies. Those are things that they got rid of on all dual motor from what I understand to not just standard.

Ah, well I will take that then, if they got rid of suede headliner for all Dual Gen2. Lucky us!

Fine, a mistake may have been made. What did Rivian do to address the issue to make things right and arrange to provide a vehicle that met your expectations?
Currently my deposit and profile has been allocated to a silver R1S that is 1-6 weeks delivery. Supposedly it's sitting at the factory about to enter transit or at least about to come off the line. However; I think I'm going to pass on that as well and simply wait for a blue, max pack, 22" bright wheels, black mountain +dark Ashwood to randomly pop up in stock. This is exactly what I want. I'm aware that if one comes with the performance upgrade that can easily be removed with the software. If the above comes but with the sound and vision package I would have no problem paying a little bit more and taking that. Hopefully it happens before the end of March so that I can take advantage of the EV upgrade rebate on the max pack.

Agreed, it was an honest mistake/oversight on both our parts. However; since that build combination "doesn't even exist" or possible to be configured on the website, you think that Rivians computer system would have some sort of red flag on the vehicle summary advising that It's somehow different from all other configurations. Their customers are spending a lot of money and you think they would want to avoid mishaps like this.

It just needed to be transferred in from another service location. The thing is he didn't inform me that although this is the blue exterior that it doesn't have the black ashwood interior. And why would I have caught it since wit's not an option that can be order on a large or max pack anyway. He is the expert and see's these variations all the time. He should have caught it.

I will speculate the following:
1. In the early release of the Gen 2 perhaps this was an option. Gen 2 released in June 2025, not sure they started labeling them as a 2025 right away, seems early but I know they generally label vehicle in the fall time as the upcoming model year. Either way this would had to have been an unsold "early" build and I wouldn't want an early build anyway.
2. Could a base model with this basic interior and small pack have come in but maybe had a battery defect and somehow they just swapped it with a max pack and relisted it for the much more expensive max pack price?

We still want an R1S. The problem is here in Ontario Canada there are no blue units in stock and in order to get the EV upgrade rebate it has to be a unit from stock (not a customized order). How dumb is that, that instead of just letting us order exactly what we want and queueing it up for production they are making us wait until randomly one day hopefully a unit with our color and options natural enters inventory. Rolling eyes!
When we ordered our 2025 R1S last August, the Dark Ashwood was a $700 adder for Large & Max packs. We specifically watched for the Dark Ashwood because a lot of the builds at that time were Black Mountain without Dark Ashwood.

Hello all, new member, first post.
I had to reject taking delivery of my 2025 Gen 2 R1S yesterday as the interior option was not what I expected. I worked with the rep going back and forth with various in-stock options for the dual ("not dual standard", the basic trim level one with the small battery pack), but the dual with "max" battery pack (to take advantage the current EV upgrade rebate). My interior choice was the "included" black mountain + dark ashwood. The only available interior options on the dual with large or max battery is black mountain+dark ashwood or Ocean cost +dark ashwood.

What was present on delivery day was the interior of black mountain only no +dark ashwood trim, the trim was the basic "cheap" looking vinyl wrapping.
I'm confused because the basic interior black mountain without the wood trim is "only" available to order on the basic dual standard with the small battery pack.

Question 1: How in the heck did the max battery get into a vehicle with the basic trim without the +dark ash wood?
Question 2: For those of you following Rivian for a while or had purchase last fall was there a period in time or a period of transition from gen 1 to gen 2 where the black mountain "without" +dark ashwood could be ordered on the mid and/or upper trim levels with large or max battery packs.?
Her are some pics of the interior I was expecting vs what the vehicle was equipped with.
Thanks for some feedback in advanced.

I have a delivery coming up for an R1T Gen 2 extended range. What do I need to look for while picking up? It's at the South San Francisco location. Thanks in advance.
