R1S left outside in freezing rain on a weekend trip. What’s the best way to handle the ice on the hood? I can open the frunk, but it then closes right away. I assume from the weight of the ice.

Of note I have xpel fusion ppf. Headed home to garage. But garage isn’t heated and it will be even colder for several days at home.

Your PPF will be fine.

Just like any car with ice on it. Don't shock the surface with hot/boiling water. It could very easily cause issues, especially near/on the glass.

Just use your hand and tap firmly and you'll crack it and then just gently remove it. Then park it inside. You'll be fine.

Thanks all. A little sun and some gentle taps and it flaked off on its own.

By the time you read this you’ve most likely defrosted your R1.

If air temperature is very near or above freezing then using a garden hose will loosen it up and it’ll slide right off. Municipal water coming from underground pipes is normally around 50 degrees. The delta between 32 degree ice and 50 degree water is enough to melt the ice. But, if your garden hose is frozen tapping to break up the ice sheet will work.

Good luck.
