If anybody is interested, I got a handful of competitive quotes for a 2019 Toyota Tundra Trade-In and am pleased with the results. I made a little table to figure out if the tax benefits of a direct trade-in with Rivian would outweigh the increased value I could get from a 3rd party. Then answer is that 3rd party is the way to go in this situation.

Now I need to hope my guide answers any of my questions so I can still pickup my new R1T on Saturday. Main question right now is if I sell my Tundra on Saturday morning, can I just sign over the check as part of my down-payment or do I need to convert it to a cashiers check first?
Thanks for sharing this with everyone! Very helpful. Did you actually have to visit all those dealerships or were they willing to give you an offer via some other method?

I have noticed a serious increase in the number of R1T sightings in the Boulder/ Longmont/ Lafayette/ Louisville/ Erie areas in the last few weeks. So far this week I have seen at least 2 a day during the course of my running around. Congrats you lucky bastards!

Wow, Carvana’s lowball offer is ridiculous!
Yeah. I just recreated the table and got a few more quotes tonight to do some comparisons. Carvana was an extreme lowball on my 2018 Forester as well by thousands of dollars. For me, Carmax is still the best offer out of the gate. I'm going to talk to Mike Shaw Subaru (my local dealer) tomorrow.

The main take away for that chart is the absolutely shop around I can’t believe there’s a $13,000 Delta between all the different offers

@BigginsCH - thanks for the great template. What is the "CD Tax Rate" in your table? I'm creating a version of it for my own use.
I'm not sure what "CD" is, it showed up on the purchase summary list of taxes.

The three dealerships gave an unbinding range online, but needed to go in person to get a formal offer, the rest were just online and mostly non-negotiable.

OK, cool. I don't see that in Broomfield but we're a city _and_ county so perhaps that is why it is different. I will check the Boulder County site to see if I need to account for it.

10 seconds later (and a little google fu) and I found it:
https://bouldercounty.gov/records/motor-vehicle/additional-motor-vehicle-resources/fees-and-taxes/

Regional Transportation District (RTD)
  • 1.100% – total Regional Transportation District (RTD) tax rate
    • 1.00% – RTD sales/use tax
    • 0.10% – Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (CD) sales/use tax

Try AutoNation USA at 104th and Harlan as well.

If any Colorado folks are looking for financing options, here is a selection of representative rates from some banks and credit unions I considered, compared to Rivian. In order to keep the process moving forward, I have decided to go with Rivian initially and then refinance with a credit union (probably Parsons FCU) in the next 30 days.

I did mine through Aurora Federal Credit Union

https://www.auroracu.com/rates/

Kayla N. Did a great job getting everything setup for us! I tend to use them for loans but I've also been a member for almost 40yrs lol (account opened when i was just a weee lad.)

Also in case you didn't know the Colorado Service Center will accept a check from the bank, so if Parsons can get you all setup that might be a possible route.

Don't remember if I posted here, but I used the KBB 'Instant Cash Offer' and it worked really well. Basically they have dealers who will guarantee their offer if you like it. We sold our 2021 ID.4 with 20k miles for 42.5k to Schomp Nissan through KBB; got 40k offer from CarMax, 38 from Rivian, 35 from Carvana, and somewhere inbetween those for all the other options we tried... KBB was the highest by a long shot.

They also still haven't sold the ID4, so I am hoping that means they overpaid me for it.

We have used KBB Instant Offer as well, with good results.

Glad to hear about the KBB results. They were one of the estimated values I got last night and it looked really nice. If it is easy then I will probably just do that.

I just tried KBB Instant Cash offer but their offer was $5k-$6k lower then the highest I saw.
