Just got this email from Trails Offroad announcing CarPlay integration with Android Auto in the works. This would be really nice and incredibly helpful on the Rivian screen.

Just saying...

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
Rivian - please figure out how to open up your ecosystem ever so slightly to allow 3rd parties to securely deploy apps to the native UI, or give us Carplay/AA. Pretty please. We actually need some of these apps instead of running a phone on the side as an unwanted 3rd screen.

Even something clunky and dopey like a contained UI within the UI, like running Parallels on a Mac to get Windows applications running.

Of all the arguments for implementing CP, apps like this are the ones that might force Rivian’s hand. Unfortunately I still think the majority of Rivian drivers never leave the pavement so there might not be enough people to push it over the top

YES! Exactly! First time I took my R1T off-roading a took wrong turn and got some pinstripes. Had the phone and iPad in the car trying to follow the Trails Offroad route and it was all very distracting - and ultimately ineffective.

CarPlay integration with Trails Offroad would have allowed me to view the mapped route on that beautiful center screen. Heck CarPlay integration would even allow use of Gaia, which is a very powerful platform and rich database.

As @COdogman mentioned, these are truly the best arguments for CarPlay and right in line with the Rivian ethos.

I’d also be quite content if Rivian partners with Trails and/or Gaia directly, but it seems CarPlay/AA would be the easier route to add such valuable functionality to the car.

This is another excellent argument for adding AA/CP. Amongst the other arguments: current Nav does not only more than A to B route planning (when taking a road trip being able to plan your entire route at once with A, B, C and D stops is incredibly useful compared to single hops). The infotainment integration is also pretty limited and not terribly user friendly right now. The phone integration is mediocre in comparison and not being able to text with voice is exceedingly frustrating.
‘The addition of AA/CP would solve so many issues for users and allow Rivian to focus on the item that truly sets them apart: the adventure ‘ camping ‘ off-roading capabilities rather than spending their time playing catch up on software items that there are already solutions for. Seems like it would save some costs as well.
