I’ve only used this stupid thing once since delivery. The rubbery parts have this powdery haze. At first I thought UV damage, but the bit surrounding the USB port is not exposed when docked. What’s happening to the material? Anyone else observing the same?

I’m tempted to treat it with Cerakote Trim Coat just to see if that makes any difference.

The polish is only temporary and will wear away. It will not take care of it.
true, but with regular use, it will help. The problem I have is that I park my truck outside and lately in California it has been blazing hot. I apply the trim ppoish about once every few months and it lasts, but I don't expect it to be a "one and done" application.

Should it happen to the speaker that is in a covered compartment?....absolutely not, but with the materials they use it might not be as hardy as vigin vinyl.

Ceramic coating is more durable and more permanent sealer. I did it after posting and am giving it time to cure. Time will tell… The downside is the coating is a bit too shiny. Maybe it will dull with time (same as it does when applied to exterior trims).

Did some research online and it appears to be a form of oxidation. Truthfully, it wipes away and restores easily with a soft cloth and rubbing alcohol. But, it would just happen again and again. Alas, though slightly tacky to the touch, it’s not as bad as some products I’ve owned (which turn sticky). I had matching Bodum coffee grinder, drip coffee maker and toaster that did it after just a year of use… like the whole thing was covered with spray adhesive and could not be restored.

Trim Coat after 24 hours of curing time… shinier than I would have liked. But it didn’t eat or melt the rubber. And the markings are unaffected as well. Cleaned with rubbing alcohol, then masked with white artists tape (not porous like blue painters tape).
