California released its 2023 full year electric/PHEV/Alt fuel (ZEV) registration data today.

ZEVs are now 25% of all light duty new vehicle registrations in California (up from 19% in 2022).

Top ZEV selling brands:
  1. Tesla - 230,096 +8%
  2. BMW - 22,499 +49%
  3. Hyundai - 19,580 +56%
  4. Chevrolet - 19,526 +52%
  5. Jeep - 18,337 +147%
  6. Ford - 17,701 +22%
  7. Mercedes - 17,025 +371%
  8. Toyota - 13, 842 +2%
  9. VW - 12,264 +136%
  10. Kia - 11,871 +24%
  11. Rivian - 10,209 +145%
  12. Audi - 9,211 +54%
  13. Volvo - 6,987 -6%

Interesting (but not surprising) 70/30 split between the R1S and R1T registration figures. I definitely see more S's than T's around here.

Thanks for sharing these insightful stats. It's interesting to see the increasing popularity and variety of EV/PHEV options in the California market. Impressive growth across most brands - great to see mainstream brands like Toyota continuing to ramp up their electric offerings as well. Also interesting to see the registration split between the Rivian models in real world sales data.
