Any Update on Max Pack?

For what it’s worth… I’m a max pack holder since late 2018 and was just contacted by my guide to confirm my configuration and delivery address. I’m not sure why they would do that so early (I was given a 1H23 window). Maybe they are simply planning for supply much further out, or just gauging interest. I did ask if there were any updates on max pack deliveries and was told there are none, but I can expect an update by the end of summer.

Thanks guys...I appreciate the replies and it's good to know there are others like me patiently waiting for the max battery. I hope they follow through with you on your update and it's encouraging that they reached out. I think if they contacted me about anything I would fall outta my chair. Keep us apprised...

On another note, I have been completely unsuccessful in my quest to get a first drive...ugh. However, when I had my Gladiator serviced a couple of weeks ago, my Jeep dealer had a white Launch Edition with 20"s - fully loaded and...wait for it...they let me take a test drive!!! Awesome truck...only had 145 miles on it. I took it easy and enjoyed the drive but am more sold than ever. Will I buy it? Hmmm...window sticker in the back seat - ~$78k...their price - $139k. Uhhh...no...

I did very much appreciate the test drive and the ability to actually sit in one and check it out. BTW...they called me back a week later and offered to sell for ~$135k. Guess I'll keep waiting.

Not directed at @RivRev ... the above means absolutely nothing because Rivian has shown time and again that the guides are clueless regarding production delays and corporate will literally wait till the last day of the estimate window to announce delays. When they say "on schedule to deliver max pack pre-orders first half of 2023" that very likely means on June 30th 2023 we could get a max-pack "delay" announcement .

Well, they haven't contacted my asking if I'd take the smaller pack...I'd be tempted at this point and save another $10K. My phone just doesn't ring I guess...

About the same time pilot will have evgo chargers at every truck stop and 50 miles apart...

I put down my reservation in Sep '21 and had originally configured with the max pack. I got an estimate late last year that my delivery would be 2nd half of '23. I didn't want to wait that long, so I switched to the large pack. I got an updated delivery window email on June 11th with a Sep-Oct '22 estimate. Three days later I received an email that it was time to lock in my configuration. Eleven days after that I took delivery. I don't think I was the initial intended recipient since the vehicle was already built and ready to ship when I got my notification.

I would really have preferred the max pack, but I wasn't prepared to wait another year. Although I am thrilled to have the truck, the estimates seem to be way off. Some early reservation holders are still waiting, while some newer reservations are delivering.

For those thinking of the XPEL Stealth look, I couldn't be happier. I love, love, love the look! Unfortunately, I had this done before Rivian announced the discounted pricing. However, it did give me the opportunity to shop around. I am very pleased with the shop I used.

I also asked if Rivian had produced a single Max pack yet, and the guide could not confirm.

I don’t know why they would confirm pre-production status of something.
for all we know the R1Ts they have had running around testing since 2018 have had max packs.

this 2018 article (the author of it is now employed by Rivian, interestingly). mentions they were building them in their lab.

Given the plan had been to build max pack vehicles first, there is no reason to assume they’re not production ready.
They‘re not building them because one max pack uses 30% more cells. Three of those could build them one “large” pack.

My guess is they just don’t have adequate supply of cells until 2023.

I've only seen in articles (which I don't believe any of them) that Max pack is coming for 2023.

I don't believe them because most of them said it in the recent spade of articles on R1S - which Rivian said no max pack. So who knows.

Battery technology is changing very fast though, so maybe by Mid2023 they might have an option using different tech.

I wouldn't draw conclusions on the max pack for the R1T based on articles/videos for the R1S. R1T has the room in the frame, the R1S doesn't (R1T is longer than the R1S). I placed my preorder in Sep 2021, max pack was always an option for the R1T, never the R1S since that time. Some people are still hesitant to believe the R1T max pack will happen for the R1T, and given its delay, and "scarcity" of battery cells, I understand that, but I wouldn't base it on articles/videos on the R1S.
