When in Hands Free mode, I have noticed that my truck frequently slows down abruptly or comes to a complete stop when it detects cars parked on the side of the road, even when there is more than sufficient clearance. Additionally, it often brakes unnecessarily when another vehicle crosses the road ahead, even if that vehicle will be clear of my path well before I arrive.

The only way to override this behavior is to press the accelerator and keep floored for a while.

Aside from these specific issues, the system works as advertised and I appreciate the functionality.

It does brake hard and early when it sees a possible problem, this is why it takes more than a good sensor suite for level 2 autonomy. Tesla FSD did the same shit before they revamped the system.

Happens to me, even in just adaptive cruise. I switch the screen to autonomy mode and almost every time it happens I see a blue sedan appear that intersects the Rivian image turning right. I'm logging each incident and will file a ticket soon. Has been happening for over 2 weeks.

I have noticed this behavior. I chalked it up to a consecutive safety attitude of the designers. Could also come from a safety bias among the training data from the professional drivers that created it. After the curent system is a drivrr assyst only. I'm guessing that will happen less often as the AI improves. Particularly, when the R2 gets LIDAR and the advanced AI hardware.

Tesla FSD *STILL* does this. Just not as often as it used to.

Not to mention it wants to slow down below the speed limit for some bends in the road, while it stays at speed on others that you would expect it to slow down for....

My gen 1 adaptive never does this, which is a big improvement over Tesla AP.

Don't have hands free but it occurs with adaptive cruise. Very disconcerting worrying about being rear ended as it will occur at highway speeds (act like it is coming to a complete stop). And yes, I am flooring it as the the slow down is as sharp as turning off cruise with high regen - like slamming on the brakes. So it becomes a moments of complete chaos of stopping cruise, flooring the accelerator and looking that I do not get hit.

My gen 1 on adaptive cruise will sometimes do this when a phantom car suddenly appears in front of me shown in the driver's display, but no vehicle ahead of me. I believe this started about 3 updates previously.

I can confirm this has been an issue for the last 4 years. Definitely not a recent thing, but highly dependent on environmental conditions. I find it MUCH more frequent with long shadows perpendicular to the roadway and vehicles parked on or near the shoulder.
