We're excited to announce that we've started shipping out our updated Gear Sled on its own and with the Overland Camp Kitchen bundle. This design update incorporates an active locking mechanism for both in and out movement of the sled. It features updated linear bearings for even smoother movement. And it is also now made entirely of metal which enabled us to shave some weight off of the unit.

We're working on updated photography for the site. (Both our and our designer/photographer's trucks have been at the service center.) In the mean time, here are some renderings that are generated straight from the files used by both our laser cutter and CNC shop (so present a very faithful representation).

As always, we're happy to ship to the 48 contiguous states and we can provide quotes for other destinations. We also schedule installations at our shop in Hayward, CA. Let me know if you have any questions. We're here to help!

Just wanted to clarify, the new design can slide out both directions or is it one or the other?

The sled exits either the driver or passenger side. That said, another advantage of the redesign is that the same sled can now be installed to exit either the passenger or driver side. So, you can install it in either orientation and you can change your mind without needing to make any modifications to the sled.

We do still ask if you'd like a driver or passenger side kitchen because it changes the way we install the cooktop.

You guys make killer stuff but I would love to have a sled that exits either side (without having to remove the entire thing and swap it around). When camping it's sometimes not practical to orient the truck in a different direction to access the sled that only exits one side of the truck.

That’s what I was hoping for too.

Why does it look like a saw?

One of those is allegedly about to be shipped but it’s been very delayed due to tariffs and communication from the project manufacturer has been exceedingly poor.

Those undulations receive the Kitchen modules and allow them to be secured. They also provide flexible spots for using bungees to attach other items if you don't have the kitchen installed.

We strive to strike a balance in functionality. The linear bearing system and active lock work well to provide maximum weight rating and to support the kitchen functionality. Our power supply management system keeps the cord from kinking or binding. Combining all of these features, we found they operate best in one direction.

That said, when a truck is outfitted for camping/overlanding, you nearly always need to make choices about how various items like awnings and RTTs are oriented. We find the best balance is passenger side since when we do use developed/powered camp sites, they are designed for trailers which nearly always use the passenger side for egress.
