Hey Rivian Fam!

Some of you might remember me (or maybe just my VIN ?). I was one of the early adopters, rocking a Launch Edition Quad Motor R1S – VIN 653, to be exact. We had some amazing adventures together, that’s for sure! But… drumroll please … the time has come for an upgrade!

We just took delivery of our Gen2 Tri Max Ascend R1S and… WOW. Just… WOW.

It’s like going from a trusty old hiking boot to a freakin’ spacesuit. Okay, maybe not quite that dramatic, but the incremental improvements are seriously impressive. It's clear Rivian hasn't been sitting still!

Parting ways with VIN 653 was a little bittersweet (so many memories!), but sliding into the driver's seat of this new beast was like coming home… to a much, MUCH nicer home. ?

I'm not going to go into a full breakdown of every single change (you all know the drill!), but let me just say a few things that have immediately jumped out:
  • The quietness! Seriously, it's whisper-quiet inside. Like, I can actually hear my kids plotting world domination in the back (just kidding… mostly). One of big complations on the LE was it was hard to take calls in the truck , this one is a major upgrade in both cabin noise and BT calling.
  • The refinement. Everything just feels… tighter, more polished. It's hard to describe, but it's definitely noticeable. I do agree the sound system is flat , but I'm not a sound junkie and plays NPR just fine ;-)
  • The instant power. The Tri-Motor is a rocket! It launches like a caffeinated cheetah. It feels even zippier than the Bosch Quads
It's truly amazing to see how far Rivian has come in such a short time. It makes me even more excited for the future of the brand and all the innovations they have in store.

Big shoutout to the Rivian team for continuing to push the boundaries of what an electric adventure vehicle can be!

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go find a mountain to climb (or at least a really steep driveway on our Christmas road trip from Chicago to Toronto)

Happy adventuring!
Happy Holidays!

Great to hear multiple owners comment about the finish improvements as well as the in-cabin NVH improvements. NVH is probably my biggest gripe about my Gen 1.
Awesome to see that configuration.

The Gen 2 light changes are really growing on me. I really like the segmented sections. Looks nice.
Hoping a Gen 2 is in my future. Hoping prices don't increase too much next year.

With the AC/heater off, my Tri is dead quiet. It's like it's moving while turned off.

With the heater on, it gets noticeably louder, and I can feel the vibration (heat pump compressor maybe?) in the steering wheel.

I've been enjoying running heated seats/wheel instead of the fan because of that.

Mine had the door card taken off today for a rattle by service. I had my usual good service guy. Richard, out of Franklin center is a knowledgeable guy, and he's been here a few times for my old T over the years. Regardless, there is substantial insulation in the doors and between the door and the door card. Before he came, I regretted not buying any dynamat to install in the door while the card was off, but there would be no room for it with all the factory insulation in there.

That's probably why they are so quiet.

Recently got the same exact vehicle Thanksgiving weekend. It just feels more premium, smoother ride, tighter fit and finish, and as my wife says, that acceleration is going to get me into trouble. LOL

I’d imagine going from a very low vin Lauch Edition to a Gen 2 must be a huge step up. However, I think a lot of the improvements in cabin noise, suspension, and overall build were rolling changes Rivian made throughout the last several years of Gen 1 production. The suspension alone has gone through at least half a dozen part # revisions, with the late model Gen 1s likely having parts identical or only one revision away from Gen 2.

I have a 2023 Gen 1 Quad (Aug 2023/vin 18xxx) and the cabin is completely silent save for some passenger side wind noise above 40mph. Ride quality is also good, with no weird suspension noises.

I’m guessing those coming from a late model Gen 1 won’t notice much difference in terms noise/ride quality of a Gen 2. However, the updated cameras and ADAS on the Gen 2s would be an obvious improvement.

Thank you , love that " G² "
I'm stealing that.

100% agree... the Tri Max Ascend is just a major step forward. I did a brief stint in a Lucid Air Grand Touring and the quality of build between the 2 feel similary luxurious

I just got this exact same spec'd R1S last Saturday and it's awesome, congratulations!

I might make a separate similar post soon but I essentially agree with everything that was said.

AWESOME, Enjoy. I can not justify or afford the the $25K price difference + depreciation for an equal Gen 2, let alone tri motor

Agree, this is why I did a 2 year lease and plan to give it back to Rivian after that.
