I Just finished an almost 2000 mile road trip (roundtrip) with my R1s Gen2 Dual Max with adventure package. I have done this same road trip on my Model Y long range a couple of times. Here arer some of my thoughts. (Miami, FL to Sevierville, TN). I Have the Lectron CCS to NACS adapter. I had 5 stops one way (My Model Y had 6-7) . I started at 100% every beginning of the trip (going to destination and coming back) 16+ hours one way.

1. I was directed to mostly Telsa Superchargers. If I find that there is another CCS charger right beside it, I try charging on that one out of courtesy to fellow Tesla EV owners. There are only a couple of instances where the CCS would not work and I would go use the Tesla Supercharger instead. (10 charging stops total, only 2 CCS were used.)

2. I would have to open the Tesla app to get discounted pricing. There was one charging session where I thought the Tesla app worked but I ended up not getting member pricing. It charged me roughly $40 instead of the $20. So (Tesla) membership is really worth it in a road trip. It can be plug and charge but I hope I can get the discounted pricing without fumbling with the app. There were some software glitches when charging. Sometimes I need to unplug first and plug back again. It was unnerving in the beginning since I have this morbid thought that I cannot charge. Never did I feel that in a Tesla.

3. Driver+ was actually helpful in the trip. Less nagging regarding looking forward. I can actually look for a song or adjust something in my infotaintmet without the car alarming. It actually did not nag at all. Big plus to Rivian. The only con is that it only works in interstates. Not working along state roads. Sometimes the lane changes were automatic and sometimes it was manual

4. The Adaptive headlights is something new to me and it worked really great. My trip had those 2 way roads where the incoming car is really close. I can see the lights adjusting. I am not sure if it has some benefit to the other vehicle tho since I sometimes see them flashing their lights on me. It really did benefit me at night in the dark it would illuminate dark spots on the road.

5. Alexa could have been used to entertain us like the games it has built in. We did not use it.

6.Tesla has this efficiency curve screen that I use a lot where it would show you estimated range before the next charge in a line graph. I like looking at it a lot in trips and I play this game if I can get more than what is anticipated. The Rivian only shows the last 15 minutes of efficiency in a graph. What I use instead is the anticipated range before the next charge.

7. On my way home, the collision warning and radar stopped working. So almost half the time I was without the driving assitance tech. I could have stopped and reset but I was too scared to break something else. It was my first long trip with the Rivian.

8. Space was really great. My kids (12 and 14 ) love the road trip more on the rivian beacuse they had a row for themselves. I folded on of the middle seat at the passanger side so that the kid in the 3rd row can extend the legs. They were comfortable. They alternated seats every charging stop.

9. It was a more comfortable roadtrip than the MY. period.

10. I really miss FSD. It worked well for me on my roadtrips with my Tesla.

Overall it was a good experience for me. I have been driving EVs for 5 years. The Rivian replaced my BMW i3. I have done EV roadtrips a bunch even on rented EVs. I still think that Teslas are a better first time EV purchase just because of ease of use in a road trip. Rivians are much nicer (even compared with a Model X)

Thank you for sharing. Nice looking R1S!
Some comments on some of your items:

I avoid chargers other than Tesla like the plague, mostly because of their higher electricity cost. Without membership, Tesla chargers in my tristate area at average $0.08 higher or 26% than what Teslas pay.

My main concern is getting to where I need to go. Let Tesla solve the need for Rivians to take two charging stalls to charge. Out of my hands.

Learned on here that there is a way to use the Tesla app and make it true plug and charge.

I stopped using Driver+ as I found it dangerous and unstable. Stick to ACC only.

No matter what I did, efficiency on my R1S quad, if one can call it that, finished at 2 mi/kWh.

Lost front sensors and camera once. I hear your concern to do anything about it! Pulled over, hard reset, fixed.

Keep mine forever on standard height, All Purpose. Nice, comfortable, roomy, floaty drive indeed. Like it!

FSD, especially the latest update, is gazillion light years away from Rivian. If only I can figure out what to do with my hands now when travelling in my Teslas.

That looks like an awesome place where you were!
When on trips, thank you for Song Quiz, Alexa!!!!

How do you use the tesla app and make it truly a plug and charge while getting membership prices?
