Just a quick little camping trip, up to Groveland CA to check out the newest RAN charger, over night with the Llamas while testing out a couple new pieces of camping kit, and then up to Yosemite for stunning vistas and a refreshing dip in the Merced river:

I can't believe that woman just straight up got in a stranger's car like that.

Thanks for posting about Groveland charging outpost and going up Old priest grade.

Old priest is pretty steep but even my old prius could make it up. Of course it didn't sound happy after the battery got depleted but it could make it.

The real challenging (scary would be better description) part is actually coming down. Even with engine braking, it's a long steep decent that can cook the brakes of car loaded car with an extra 1000 lbs of extra people + gear. Every car I've taken down the grade sounded like the engine was going to seize up by the end.
There are a couple of strait downhill sections that end in 90 degrees turns. One would be going over the cliff if they didn't slow down enough ahead of the turn. At least they've beefed up the guardrails over the years.

How was the decent down Old Priest grade in the Rivian? Did the regen keep up or did you need to use friction brakes?

Totally non-issue, didn't touch the friction brakes until the stop sign at the bottom when it rejoins the main road. Footage was boring so it didn't make the cut :p

That's good to know. One time I almost rolled into cross traffic at the bottom because the brakes were so faded and I didn't brake early enough.

My wife will definitely appreciate a boring decent down the grade when we take the R1S. :D
