Not sure how many folks have tried a RTT- but fo my wife and I the main problem was having to set up and tear down every night as we go exploring during the day.

We found a great condition used Sylvan GO camper and love the space, but it had a couple of minor problems as well.
1. It is not set up for off road
2. Unless packed well small items could (and did) fall out of the trailer (user error)
3. Items in the trailer were visible and others could be tempted to help them selves.

I just finished upgrading mine To address these issues.
Inspired by the new Sylvan GOAT (GO Anywhere Trailer) I figured that I could retro fit mine for about $2k and not have to invest in a new one.

Upgrades:
1. All terrain wheels and tires
2. Diamond plate sides
3. Diamond plate fenders
4. Fender side marker lights
5. Cargo Rack & spare tire
6. 24” stabilizers to make up for the increased clearance
7. Back diamond plate “door” to keep stuff secure
8. Extensions for rear step (to make up for the increased height)

Still looking for my first chance to take it out and get it dirty.

Looks awesome. I've been considering something similar. RTT is cool and all, but it sure would be great to leave everything in its place. You'll have to let us know how it goes.

I've been eyeing one of these. My only hesitation so far is that it sticks up 6" above the tailgate so it will have some aero hit, but not as much as a trailer. I like it more than a whole trailer, especially for off-roading. I can just drop it at our small storage unit when not in use instead of trying to store a trailer too. I'm still on the fence though about getting anything other than a ground tent (I'm getting rid of our rooftop tent).

thanks for all the comments. I will post photos of the set up sometime this weekend. I am also looking for an opty to post some efficiency numbers based on the MODs I recently completed. I will look up and post the efficiency of a trip I did in early spring Pre MOD. Stand by!

here are my efficiency numbers pre MODs

Both trips - Truck indicated that the trailer load was 1,000 lbs (loaded with gear)

Outbound
80 Miles (keeping to speed Limit) 60MPH 1.9Mi/kWh headwind 4.1 MPH

Return
80 miles (70-74 MPH) 1.5Mi/kWh head wind 11.3 MPH

Will be interesting to see what the post mods will do. Larger heaver tires and spare tire....
stay tuned...

Additional Note: Keep in mind that my very best efficiency numbers at HWY Speed is 2.1 . at 70 mph so the hit is somewhat minimal.

I love what you did - it looks sharp! I was looking at the Sylvan Go trailer and what turned me off is that if two of you want to sleep together you basically have to turn the entire trailer into a full-floor sleeping surface. If you're willing to sleep apart you can keep the middle aisle as a walkway, put a small table on the far end, etc.

I think my hangup is that I'd be transitioning from an 11x11 tent with plenty of room to walk around our air mattress on the floor to the trailer-equivalent of a RTT. Next time we go camping (hopefully in the fall), I'm going to try sleeping in our R1S with an attached Napier Outdoors SUV Tent. That will give us a Rivian bedroom (level and climate-controlled) and a tent foyer in which we can comfortably stand to change or set up chairs and a table in inclement weather. There's also a large integrated awning (in addition to a screened room) under which I could cook. The SUV tent is also a much smaller investment to see how it works.

I really like that how that Napier connects and that the vehicle is an extension of the tent. Also - really nice to have heating/cooling from the vehicle. I also like that you can leave it set up and not have to tear it down if you wanted to go somewhere. Nice option!

Check the website regularly...I bought the Napier for just $239 (plus about $50 shipping) in early July. The price has varied a couple of times since then (currently $389 plus shipping). One thing that caught me a little off guard: The Napier I bought weighs over 50 pounds! The weight isn't listed anywhere that I could find on the website so I was very surprised when it arrived and I went to move the box. I haven't set it up yet, but hope to this weekend - if I do I'll take some pictures and post them.

Did you ever get a chance to make note of updated efficiency numbers after your all-terrain upgrades? How are you liking it paired with the Rivian?
