I have had my 2024 R1t since mid May. Rivian recently put in a RAN setup in my hometown of Baton Rouge, LA. I have a level 2 charger in my home as my wife drives a Mach-E (for about 2 years now) so i have not needed to use the RAN network. Today - i ended up shopping right next door to the RAN so i thought i might give it a try so i would know if there were any issues when i HAD to use one while travelling. Pulled up to the charger (there were i think 7 or 8?), plugged in - waited about 30 seconds for it to "authorize" and then it started the charge. i did not have to do anything on the app or on the charger - it recognized my vehicle and was off to the races. I was at 46% and charged 52.7736kWH in 19 minutes. It was all complementary and I got an email from Rivian with the details of the charge. would have been .29/min for 6 min 59 sec and .40 min for 11 min 12 seconds for a total of 6.83 for the 19min but of course my was a 0.00 cost I am sure someone here knows why the price is different, i assume that when it was charging at a higher rate it was more expensive.

Overall - could not be happier with the ease of using a RAN charger and the speed with which it charged. Everything was flawless.

The differing prices per minute are based on how fast you were charging. https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/...ocations-map-via-google-maps.1721/post-526223 has a picture I took of the RAN site in Wichita, KS. This shows the different rates for above and below 160 kW charging speed.

The sites that charge by the minute are cheap! You would have paid 12.9 cents/kWh.

I’m not certain on why it was free for you. I’m sure other can say. Likely something about when you purchased your vehicle.

My guess on why it was free is that the site hasn't been 'certified' yet for accuracy of energy delivered. Like gas pumps have to be certified by weights and measures department to make sure gas stations aren't cheating people. .

RAN is the best. They should build more?

They are a good compromise, my experience is not "best." I've paid extra to Supercharge, because of location, which seems like the small "miss" for the RANs I've used (or skipped). Around the Southwest RAN is always cheaper than SC when I look at them. But SC is almost always slightly better placed for amenities. RAN is more likely to have a trailer spot, but sometimes it's an absolute no-trailer location like central Phoenix. You couldn't get there with one at all.

SC and RAN are equally convenient and quick to connect and use. I haven't tracked it very carefully, but I feel like I get 10-20kWh more at SCs.

I agree with all those points. I would also add for myself that if I have to pay for charging I would drive a little farther to use a RAN so that money goes to Rivian instead of EA or Tesla. Just my preference.

I've had great experiences with RAN chargers as well. If only EA chargers were as reliable as Rivian's.

I should have said from my original post, when i purchased my R1t in May i was told by my rep that RAN charging was complimentary for 2 years. He made it sound like it was "standard" when you buy a new one. I'm not sure i recieved any "paperwork" stating two years. But in the email i received after the charging session, it stated, "Enjoy free charging at Rivian chargers for a limited time." Are others paying for their RAN charging?

We paid $0.36/kWh for RAN charging from Day 1 of ownership (2024-02-16).

Best wishes!

Yes, RANs are great. I am lucky to have a few on my typical road-trip routes.

RANs do load share among the stalls so, if a location is busy, you'll get significantly slower charging speeds.
