Don't know if this is the right place, but I wanted to just post this for all the people thinking about a used vs. new Rivian. I'm a long time listener first time caller.

Two weeks ago I picked up a 2022 R1T Adventure Quad with 20k miles on it. Previously I had my Acura TSX that I bought new back in 2011, which I was intent on driving into the ground, but with 2 kids and more camping gear than is necessary I was really needing something larger. I got the R1T in the low $60's, quad motors, all the doodads, 20" wheels, spare tire, etc.

Bottom line: I'm in love with this thing.

I had shopped for a long time, and test drove a new one. But the $75k and up price floor was hard to swallow. My BiL also has an R1T and was able to talk me through a bunch of questions about everything from charging to tires to what to watch out for.

I had also been lurking on this forum and the Reddit, and so maybe my take here is helpful to someone else considering new vs. used.

Warranty: I was able to confirm that the warranty was in place before purchasing with the VIN. Rivian sent me a spreadsheet with all the deets.

Change of ownership: took like 48 hours once I sent the purchase paperwork over to Rivian, very smooth process overall.

It came with the included portable charger, which I'm using as the home charger. I got an electrician to install a dryer outlet for it and it works great.

Tonneau: the prior owner had installed a soft tonneau which I've been using, but I have the under warranty replacement scheduled for September. Again zero complaints with Rivian service hotline.

Also (important to me but dumb) it fits in my 1980's 2 car garage.

Weird complaints I've seen about the R1T and my opinions:
  1. Sound system sounds incredible to me. Granted my last car was from 2011.
  2. Road noise from the all terrain tires is somewhat noticeable, but it's 1000% quieter than my last car.
  3. The glass roof in Florida makes it get hot AF if you park in full sun. Thinking about one of those roof sun shields from Amazon.
Honestly this thing drives like it's on rails. I love it. I know the new models have improved computers and whatnot, but that wasn't worth 25k to me. So if you're thinking about a used one, it might just be a good idea.

I bought mine used, all items that need to be fixed the service center took care of them. I’ve had the truck for almost a year. It’s been great. I hope you enjoy yours like I have mine.

I bought mine used in February 2023 as well. It had 1400 miles on it. Now it has 42,000. Like you, I love this truck.

My advice for sun shielding: go to a local tint shop and have them install the lightest tint IR/UV blocking film they have on the inside of the windshield and moonroof. Visibility will not change, but the air conditioning will keep you cool as a cucumber in the produce section while the fan settles to the lowest speed.

Welcome, Glacier White was my runner up color choice and looks fantastic. Because you're rocking a 2022 build, you actually have the Meridian sound system, while everyone February 2023 onward has the in house system. Having had the opportunity to listen to both (granted it was R1T Meridian, R1S in house) the Meridian was easier to dial in and get where I wanted it, the in house always felt off and even after a week, was difficult to get to that happy place.

Personally, I think you did good on your buy. Congrats on the new to you truck, and the fact you actually got some dirt on it! This is the way!

Where in Tampa area are you?

I'm building a home in Lakewood Ranch. I'm back and forth but, will be down full-time next year.

What model R1T? We have the same exterior color!

Dicey idea for the moonroof. I remember on Reddit a bunch of early R1T owners had some issues with the glass(cracking? Don't recall) and had a heck of a time getting it warrantied. Better to use a heat blocking PPF on the outside, e.g.

https://www.uppf.com/en-sunroof.html

Expensive, but, works wonders.

Interesting. I’ve had no problems with this setup, and have used it on six vehicles since 2012 with no issues. Just cool, quiet rides.

I've never personally seen an issue but I remember several people all running into issues with early R1Ts. Coupled with the litany of people replacing roof glass, I went with the PPF on the outside.
