Picked up the Yakima EXO System during the Yakima 20% off sale the week before Memorial Day; saved ~$500!

The modular hitch-based swing-out solution is a much better solution than any roof-based system for none the least of which is less drag impact to max range.

Very happy with it so far. I drove with it attached all week to work (100+ mile r/t) but the real test will be on our first road trip to the OBX in August.

See the following for a good demonstration:

See attached photos below.

I also picked up the following accessories which are not pictured below:

Looks like a great solution for road trips.
Is the box long enough to fit skis in the 178-186 cm range?
EDIT: looks like the length is 5' so probably too short for my skis.

Any idea what the range or efficiency hit is at highway speeds?

Nice! You'll have to let us know how the OBX trip goes. Are you taking it on the beach?

Is there a way to reverse the set up so when you swing the assembly out, the work space faces in? This would allow users immediate access to their tailgate (extra workspace, staging area, etc), as opposed to having to walk around the whole thing to get there.

I don't know skis but there is the EXO Snowbank option.

I'm sure the range and efficiency hit is dependent upon what you put in it at least weight-wise, but I saw zero significant difference driving it 6 days/600 miles even though the system itself weighs ~150 lbs empty.

No, I'm not risking it on the beach with my 22" wheels; maybe if I eventually get a spare set of 20" AT wheels one day.

I'd never hear the last of it from my wife and daughter if I got stuck and had to be pulled out by an ICE truck! ?

Yes. Check out the video link I posted above which demonstrates how easy it is to rotate it 180'.

I see that OP’s kitchen is installed at the bottom level but in the vid that Steve shared the kitchen is placed at the top level, above the gear storage box which is at the bottom.

Wondering if this solution would be possible/suitable for the R1S? I suspect the risk is it might be too tall to use the kitchen comfortably in this setup. We can lower the R1S with the air suspension though. Anyone else have the setup as the vid on the R1S?

Sharing the vid again:

Considering the height of the woman in the video, I in the video I don't think it would be a problem especially not at R1S lowest ride height, but it's dead simple to switch top and bottom EXO components either way.

You'll be fine. I took mine into the sand up in Corolla a couple times last year and it was no sweat. I actually ended up pulling out an F-150. I highly recommend it; with our vehicles being so quiet, all you hear when you're driving along is the surf and the birds. You can actually drive right up to the wild horses (to be clear, there were two standing on the side of the road in one of the neighborhoods and they just stood there as I passed them - I was not chasing down wild horses in my Rivian).

Yakima EXO:
I've had one for 4 years now and love it.
I made an aluminum basket because in Québec everything rust and Yakima basket are no exception.

Great to transport bees... among other things.

I have added LED lights on the rack for 50$ and can transfer the car plate too.
I was thinking of adding big sandy buggy wheels for beach camping because the Yakima ones are no use, I've returned them.

I havent seen a big difference in km with the Tesla Model Y.

I don't have a Rivian, yet, I have the voucher for 2019 launch edition, but just postpone my order.
I've decided to wait to have lease in Québec, because 1. the trade in are a joke (I have a 2022 F150 to exchange), 2. the depreciation and 3. the loans are way higher than what I'm willing to loose for a starting company.

Nice! How does it play with your rear view?
Again, depends upon what you put on the top shelf. Worst case rear visibility-wise is the Gear Locker on the top shelf which blocks your entire rear window but you can turn on the rear camera which is obstructed by the vertical beam but you can still see good enough to back in a parking space with the overhead view.

Had to look up how to turn off the rear sensors which is a Driver+ setting apparently.
