I’ve been working with Rivian Fleet on the potential purchase of a few Delivery 500’s. Today, we received a demo unit to test for a few days.

I spent some time with it before turning it over to my staff to use and test. I was impressed with the overall space and features. The infotainment is a paired down version of the R1 series, but seems to have all you need. Acceleration was quick and more than enough for a delivery van. Visibility is fantastic in this thing. The rear camera is always on display in the main screen (top right). Driver door entry/exit is awkward to say the least, however using the dedicated passenger slider door was great.

Lack of range and payload are the only concerns at the moment. I’ll update this post with any other findings that are relevant.

I wish they made a long range option of these. THey would be perfect candidates for a camper van conversion

Awesome! What's the variation in daily range of your vehicles? I've heard that fleet managers know exactly how much range their vehicles need, but assume there needs to be some buffer.

I’m the range we need in general is much higher than the 500 can accommodate. It will be fine for some specific uses in the company, so we are looking at it through that lens. These vans are real head-turners and I’m thinking about how much our logo would be noticed around town.

Thanks for sharing this! I'm sure there are plenty of folks here who are interested to hear your thoughts.

I know the Rivian mobile techs and Amazon drivers I have spoken with really love these vans. I hope you have a great experience with them too.

Cool, any chance you can do a DC charging test with it?

Thanks for sharing this!! Super cool!

Payload should be about 2,700 lbs for the 500 and the 700 is slightly lower at 2,500 ...last time I looked at them anyway.

Last I read they are using the LFP batteries in these. I too had the idea of a longer range with NCM chemistry and a camper van conversion.

2734# is a significant payload. If Rivian can improve the range, RV upfitters will be buying the crap out of these things. A 50 Amp outlet at an RV park will be able to charge the vehicle overnight and run the RV systems. This could be a real winner in the Class B RV arena.

If this had more range, it would make an awesome dog show van! I don't need more payload than what this is rated for.
