Over the weekend I took my first longer road trip with my R1S, from Chicago to Northern Michigan. It's about a 375-mile one way trip. The R1S performed flawlessly and charging was a breeze (after a slight EA hiccup in Cadillac, MI). I used a mixture of All Purpose and Conserve.

Nov 4: Left Chicago with 100% charge, picked up a friend, and headed for the Grand Rapids airport to pickup another. Along the way we stopped at the Benton Harbor RAN, got a coffee and sat for a while at the Dunkin' Donuts. First time using a RAN station. Charging was free.

88 miles (40 kWh) added in 33 minutes.

After getting our other friend from GRR, headed north stopping in Cadillac for another charge at the Electrify America at the Meijer store. I could not get the charge to initiate without creating an account and calling support. They rebooted the charger, and got me going. So that killed about 15 minutes.

121 miles (59 kWh) added in 29 minutes.

Arrived at destination, a cottage on Lake Michigan which had a level 2 charger.

Nov 7: Return Trip. Again, left with 100%. Crunched for time so couldn't stop in Cadillac before dropping friend off at GRR. First and only charge of this trip was at the EA at the Meijer in Hudsonville, MI. This one charged the fasted.

152 miles (72 kWh) added in 31 minutes.
Arrived home with 14% battery left.

This is a trip I make several times a year and couldn't be happier with the R1S and charging. When we get access to the Tesla network convenience should only improve, but I'd love to see Rivian open RAN stations in Grand Rapids or Cadillac. The R1S was very comfortable for driver and passengers, and I found Driver+ intuitive and functional. Over all 9.5/10.

@Mister Person, you don't mention what state of charge you rolled into the chargers with, but the charging times make it seem like you were still pretty high in the pack when you stopped to charge. At low SoC, read below 25% or so, you can get 50 kWh in 15 minutes.

Here's one of the better charging sessions I've seen, coincidentally at a RAN.

I've made a few trip of 300+ miles since I got my R1S on Xmas 2022. I absolutely love it. My big thing was that during busy weekends sometimes I had to wait for chargers to free-up. So, that set me back an hour or so in my trip but that's the new norm that I keep telling my family.

Raleigh, NC to Spartanburg, SC -twice
Raleigh, NC to Asheville, NC - twice
Raleigh, NC to Charleston, SC - Longest trip so far
Raleigh, NC to Atlanta, GA -Coming up in Thanksgiving (will become the longest trip after)

I'd love to to make a 12 hour trip to NYC and see how that goes

What was your efficiency on the trip?
I honestly didn't track it and didn't worry about it. I stayed in All Purpose for about half the time, Conserve the other half. The efficiency meter was in the green for most of it. I also had 2 passengers, our gear, and the heater and seat heaters going. I knew I was going to stop to charge and whether I charged for 15 or 25 minutes didn't matter much to me.
