Well, It’s official. As the owners of a Tesla and Rivian we are now a 2 BEV family. Our Tacoma pickup (sold in April) and Audi S3 (sold in February 2021) are now history.
After nearly 2-years and many changes to my R1T configuration I finally took delivery this afternoon. The vehicle had 16 miles on the odometer and Rivian customer service is currently exceeding my expectations. I was stoked that the door sticker indicated that my vehicle was not assembled on a Monday or Friday? Yes, I know where employees minds are on those days.
I ended up picking out a truck from the R1T Shop with a 139XX VIN that was nearly identical to my configuration minus the manual tonneau cover and spare tire.
I think my order did not get priority as I cancelled my original order after the crazy price hike and reinstated the order after RJ said he would honor original pricing. I am only 7-miles from the local SC.
I put about 40 miles on the truck today and drove like a dream. The steering wheel and alignment was spot, zero squeaks or rattles (huge pet peeve of mine), no wind noise at highway speeds, I played with the suspension settings and performed a couple of pedal to the metal sprints. I am leaning on “Sport“ and “Low” suspension settings at the moment.
The delivery at the SC was a great experience. My Rivian rep, Donavan, had that friendly Rivian “vibe“ and was very knowledgeable (ex Tesla employee). He knew the answer to every question I threw his way. The 60 minutes we had together flew by. My Rivian Guide even left a gift box with Rivian swag and a thank you note in the frunk that I didn’t expect. Nice touch!
I will post a follow up thread regarding overall exterior fit and finish, panel alignment, gaps, etc. (some minor exterior panel fitment issues).
For those of you who chose the Ocean Coast interior you are going to be in heaven. I never wavered on my interior color choice and I am very pleased with it. The off white interior colors make the cabin feel light, airy and bigger than it actually is. It is NOT similar to the Tesla bright white interior.
My favorite exterior features are the forged 20” AT wheels/tires, overall styling and the futuristic exterior lighting. The LED light bars look awesome.
I wasn’t crazy about the R1T front end styling but it‘s starting to grow on me. You don’t see all of the jewel like details until you get closer to the vehicle. Even the front and rear LED light bars have details molded onto the lenses.
The bottom line? I am loving the truck so far. I feel the 2-year wait was worth it and the truck has good value at the old pricing of $73k. I would have passed on buying the truck if Rivian did not honor the original MSRP pricing.
The R1T and the Rivian team are amazing. Don’t get caught up with some of the negative posts on the Rivian online forums. It’s simply the nature of the beast where a LOT more negative experiences are posted rather than positive ones. Yes, Rivian occasionally makes a lemon like every other premium auto manufacture.
Pics or it didn't happen. Cheers all…
