you are correct the matte black is best for the black interior it looks similar to the plastic the flip down vanity mirror is made of on the other side. -

Blacked out my logos with vinyl
We've switch to a thinner vinyl as the OP mentioned. It rolls better over the edges and is less stiff, this should eliminate most of the peel issues going forward.
