I live in NC and owned the 2013 Tesla Model Y. Due to the bureaucratic policy by the dealers and state, I couldn't purchase the MY in NC at the time. I'm interested in R2 and see no reason I cannot have the same process to purchase or lease the R2.
Your reasoning is completely consistent...
So I priced the Performance launch edition with White exterior and interior of $59,990 along with the Premium trim with the same features (add autonomy+, tow package) of $59,440 since I don't need the R2 this year. The difference is $550. It really doesn't make sense.
I’m less concerned about having LiDAR; what matters more to me is achieving reliable point-to-point driving like Tesla’s FSD today, which relies only on cameras and performs very well (L2+ they call it). I hope Rivian can deliver comparable point-to-point capability by Q1 2027.
Nick, I agree with you on LiDAR. I’m skeptical that Rivian will be able to deliver true point-to-point autonomy by Q1 2027, which is when I’m planning to buy or lease. I’m a Tesla fan and recently test-drove the Model Y and Model 3 with point-to-point FSD and it was incredibly impressive, and I...
I’ve had my Model S for 12 years and have really enjoyed the driving experience. I’ve placed an order for the R2, though I don’t expect to purchase it until 2027. I’d like to test drive it especially to evaluate its LiDAR-based autonomy. I’m hoping Rivian can refine its software to be as good...
I have owned a Model S for 11 years and currently lease a ZDX, but I am now looking forward to my next vehicle. Several features are particularly important to me, specifically Full Self-Driving (FSD), V2H capabilities, and NACS charging. In my view. My next EV is Model Y however Tesla has fallen...
