Why did they go through the engineering effort to make AM and FM interfaces for Internet streaming then? “That’s not their target demographic” Teslas have FM tuners. I don’t believe any other manufacturer omits the FM tuner in their automobiles in the US.

I think posing this question to a broader EV community like r/electricvehicles would get you a more balanced set of responses than a Rivian forum

Not to mention a cell tower covers FAR less area than an FM radio tower.

That’s kind of the point. The cost to include it in the vehicle would’ve been minuscule, along with grab handles in the cabin. Both things that are actually useful when on “adventures.”

FM radio broadcasts are digital these days. Stop using words that are too big for you to understand. Fun fact for the less educated: CDs are also digital.

The current Alexa is powered by modern LLMs. They released a whole new version of it a year ago or so. I think they call it Alexa+ or something. But if it can't read my mind, it's slower than me pressing a button. So it's not a substitute.

They said the same thing about Alexa, Siri. It's a lot faster to press a climate button once than say "Hey Rivian, turn my Air Conditioning on" RE: FM. Yeah. Really stupid decision for what's marketed as an "Adventure Vehicle." Kind of like how it also has no grab handles. And plastic/cardboard...

I actually kind of consider it a safety issue. Maybe just carry a portable AM/FM radio or something. In case either A. You're outside of cell reception but still want weather/traffic data etc B. Something goes wrong, cyberattack or something on internet infra
